Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Screening Shocks Fans
New movie and television projects are becoming increasingly difficult to get off the ground, as the current entertainment sphere is dominated by large franchises and sequels. However, it would seem that all major franchises are now suffering from sequel fatigue; The MCU has been receiving pretty poor reviews, and the DCU has been restarted several times, and now the newest installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is performing very poorly in test screenings.
Test Screenings Are Not Going Well
According to Jeff Sneider, Disney had a test screening of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in Burbank, California a few weeks back, and the test audience’s consensus isn’t really encouraging. In fact, Sneider heard that the movie is “a stinker.” It would seem that it can’t really compare to Matt Reeves’ War For the Planet of the Apes from 2017, which is considered to be the best one of the last trilogy of the Planet of the Apes movies.
New Director Can’t Hack It?
Sadly, the reported performance isn’t all that surprising. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes takes place several generations after the last movie and continues the previous trilogy, which peaked with Reeves in the director’s chair. However, Reeves isn’t back in the directorial role for the upcoming film; he was replaced by Wes Ball, known for his work on the Maze Runner trilogy. And considering how well that trilogy performed—it received mixed reviews—we wouldn’t be surprised if Ball doesn’t deliver a viewing experience on par with Reeves’.
The Super Bowl Trailer
Twentieth Century Fox and Disney released a full-length trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes during the Super Bowl this past Sunday, and the internet’s reaction was mostly positive. The movie takes place many years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, with ape clans searching for traces of secret human technology while also enslaving other ape clans and hunting humans, which have reverted into a feral state. There’s also a subplot about an ape journeying with a human girl, though the exact narrative details still remains unknown.
Delays In The Planet Of The Apes’ Future?
The alleged poor screening results for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes could imply reshoots, which would potentially cause shifts in the release date, currently set for May 24. Taking into account Disney’s recent track record, it’s entirely possible for the whole movie to be reduced to a simple cash grab.
Decide For Yourself
Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, and the final judgment will be passed once the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes reaches its theatrical release date. As with all unverified and insider information, we suggest that you proceed with caution and reserve excitement at your own risk.
