Pirates Of The Caribbean Getting Spinoff Series About Unlikely Character?
Pirates of the Caribbean star, Jack Davenport, says he would be in for a Commodore Norrington series.
Pirates of the Caribbean has included some amazing characters, apart from the obvious Captain Jack Sparrow. However, there could be another Pirates spinoff happening with the unlikeliest of characters: Commodore Norrington. Jack Davenport, who played Norrington in three of the Pirates film was asked if he would return for his own spinoff, to which he replied: “A snowball in hell has a stronger chance of survival than the Commodore Norrington reboot, but sure.”
Davenport was speaking to SCAD TVfest when he revealed that he would be in for a Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff series and indicated that if Jerry Bruckheimer was watching, he wants to make it known to “put me back in the brigade.” To be honest, that would pose an interesting story, as we all saw Norrington lose his life once he helped Elizabeth Swan escape. No one knows what happened to him during the years past when he met Captain Jack Sparrow, and we would certainly love to see that unfold.
Pirates of the Caribbean is certainly returning, as Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that new movies are in the world. Whether they involve Johnny Depp and Jack Sparrow have yet to be confirmed though. What we do know is that Bruckheimer is actively creating a new universe that could expand beyond the movies, and as popular as Disney+ is, we could see some new shows being produced.
We did report that a new Pirates of the Caribbean series was being put together, and Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien was the top choice to lead that series. It would be interesting if O’Brien was a young soldier in the British Navy right around when Norrington was running things. He could watch as Norrington is disgraced by Jack Sparrow, and watch his life implode from then on.
This is just speculation, of course, but Commodore Norrington is a great character. Despite him being on the “evil” side of things, people certainly felt for the guy, as his only crime was falling in love with Elizabeth Swan. Though he did become a pirate at one point, it was because he allowed his heart to dominate his rational thinking, which is something that has happened to most of us. Though Norrington eventually returned to honor, he was unceremoniously killed in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Norrington is one of the most honorable characters in Pirates of the Caribbean, and he certainly would have quite a tale to tell if his life was covered from the events of the first movie to his eventual death in the third. We would certainly watch that series if it were to be made by Disney+. That series would also have the potential in bringing back some of the best legacy characters.
Though Johnny Depp is likely going to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, we are not sure if any of the original characters would be so willing to return. It is going to be interesting to see what Jerry Bruckheimer has planned for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but it appears that shows and movies are now going to build out this newly rebooted universe.
