Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Rumors And Johnny Depp’s Future With The Franchise Clarified
Considering that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time, fans have been finding it a bit odd that the series has fallen dormant for so long. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was released in 2017, and since then, it has been all quiet. Admittedly, star Johnny Depp’s public legal troubles with his ex Amber Heard made plans for any future movies awkward for a time.
However, with those legal disputes resolved, and the jury unanimously favoring Depp on nearly all counts, many are wondering if Pirates of the Caribbean 6 could be brewing with Jack Sparrow making a return. And it might not be out of the realm of possibility.
Could Johnny Depp Return?
To be clear, Johnny Depp was not that fond of Disney after the company turned its back on him during his initial fall from grace.
Depp infamously said that he would not return to do Pirates of the Caribbean 6 even if Disney offered him $300 million and one million alpacas.
However, that was during the most heated portion of his legal troubles. Now that the dust has settled, perhaps Depp would be willing to reconsider. But would Disney?
Jerry Bruckheimer Likes Johnny Depp
For what it is worth, Jerry Bruckheimer, whose company produced the Pirates of the Caribbean films, has made it clear he still thinks quite positively of Johnny Depp.
When asked to give his opinion of whether Jack Sparrow could come back for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, Bruckheimer said, “We’re still working on it. Nothing’s definitive yet, but we continue to take little baby steps getting toward a screenplay.”
He also called Depp a friend and a terrific actor. So nothing definitive, but also clearly no hard feelings.
Could Margot Robbie Be In Next Film?
At the height of Johnny Depp’s troubles, the rumors circulating were that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 would be starring Margot Robbie as a brand new pirate.
The star has made a big name for herself through playing roles like Harley Quinn and Barbie, so she certainly has the star power to headline a Pirates film.
Unfortunately, nothing further has really moved forward beyond her name being floated for a role in the franchise. However, Bruckheimer has been clear that Robbie’s movie is still alive as well.
Discussions Still Happening
“The Margot Robbie one needs work,” said Bruckheimer. “The younger cast one is close. Hopefully, we’ll get them both.”
Despite the silence on the topic since the initial news, he also made it clear that discussions are still happening about the movie. “It’s alive for me. It’s alive for Disney… we believe we’ll get it made. It’s a very strong story.”
So perhaps the Margot Robbie-led movie will be a spinoff that happens after Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
Teasing The Next Film
Fans of the franchise are well aware that Disney definitely seemed to have plans for another movie following Dead Men Tell No Tales.
The movie ended with a post-credits scene showing Will and Elizabeth asleep in their bed. During their rest, the shadow of Davy Jones approaches, indicating the villain has returned.
Will suddenly sits up and the room is empty, seeming like it was just a dream. However, a puddle and barnacles remained on the floor, seeming to tease Jones returning as the antagonist for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
Still In Disney’s Plans
As of right now, the only confirmation is that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still in Disney’s plans. And by the sound of things, Johnny Depp’s reputation is on the mend enough that it is not impossible that the two may work together again. However, any new movie before late 2025 would be highly unlikely.
