Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Chooses Johnny Depp Replacement?
It looks the rumor mill is getting fired up in regard to Pirates of the Caribbean 6, and there’s a lot to talk about. Though IMDB doesn’t give us much information, the internet is doing its thing over on X and generating a lot of engagement about a few different possibilities.
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 On The Way?
Earlier this month, The Hollywood Handle posted on X suggesting that a female-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie (starring Ayo Edebiri) is in the works over at Disney, which implies the absence of Johnny Depp if you take this information at face value.
It’s worth noting, however, that if this rumored project gets the official green light, this would probably be a spinoff instead of the long-awaited Pirates of the Caribbean 6 that we’ve all been waiting for.
Johnny Depp Open To Returning To Pirates
In fact, as recently as this past June, it was reported that Johnny Depp would be open to returning to the franchise if the project seemed to be worthwhile.
As of this writing, it’s not quite clear whether Edebiri will only star in the rumored spinoff film, or also make her way into the sequel that’s in the works.
Johnny Depp Removed From The Franchise
As we all know, Johnny Depp was removed from the franchise in the wake of his defamation trail against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Depp has said in the past that he was reluctant to return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 because of his strained relationship with Disney, who gave him the axe before a verdict was reached. As we all know, the court of public opinion (and the actual court) ruled in Depp’s favor, significantly restoring his reputation among the masses.
Johnny Depp Would Be Welcomed Back?
Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced all of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, has also gone on record stating that he admires Johnny Depp as both a friend and an actor, and would welcome him back to the franchise with open arms during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Despite his well-wishes, there is no solid evidence that suggests Depp will be cast in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. What’s more, if Depp is offered the role it doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll actually accept it.
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 With A New Cast?
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 rumors notwithstanding, the female-led spinoff seems to be another project entirely that will feature a younger cast. It’s also worth noting that a female-led Margot Robbie-starring spinoff was in the works as early as 2020, but Robbie suggested that this project wasn’t moving forward in November 2022 during an interview with Vanity Fair.
Bruckheimer has since offered conflicting information about the project, stating that the Christina Hodson-written screenplay has a lot of promise but needs some more work before it goes into further development or production.
Margot Robbie Involved?
Until we hear an official update on the Margot Robbie project that definitively confirms whether the project is dead or will eventually move forward, your guess is as good as ours.
In other words, there are three different moving parts as far as we’re concerned. What we know for certain is that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will eventually materialize, with or without Johnny Depp. According to Bruckheimer, we’re not talking about a matter of “if,” but rather a matter of “when.”
Additionally, there are two possible spinoffs: one starring Margot Robbie, and one starring Ayo Edebiri that are still shrouded in mystery.
Stay tuned for more updates on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and the possible spinoffs that are still in development.
