The Star Trek: Picard Season 2 trailer is finally here and fans have been eagerly anticipating their first look at the new season. Particularly because it was known that John de Lancie would be returning on-screen as the omnipotent being known as Q. He already popped up in animated form when Star Trek: Lower Decks had its great first season, but now we can see him in the flesh and back as one of the absolute best Star Trek characters in the history of the franchise.
Check out the Star Trek: Picard Season 2 trailer with the return of Q right here:
First of all, can we just all take a moment to appreciate how good John de Lancie looks in this Star Trek: Picard Season 2 trailer? The man is absolutely glowing and immediately feels like the best thing about this show. We don’t yet know just how prominent or consistent a role he is going to play in this second season, but after seeing these few seconds of him back in character, we are really hoping he isn’t just a glorified cameo. I mean, just look at this guy!
But Star Trek: Picard Season 2 does not just have a trailer for us. Oh no, there is even a new poster for the upcoming run of episodes. As with a lot of this kind of marketing material, fans usually look at this and try to find some hint about what to expect. After this poster, we have to admit that we have been left scratching our heads a bit. Just what exactly is this hinting at?
The entire landscape here does not look very futuristic. Could Star Trek: Picard Season 2 be traveling back to the past? There is a line that Q says in the trailer about “the road not taken”, so could we be seeing alternate timelines? Will going back into the past be the only way to stop something in the future? That is a plot device that should be well-known to Patrick Stewart at this point as it is exactly what the movie Star Trek: First Contact was based around. Will we see the Borg utilize time travel technology once again?
Hopefully, we will start to get a clearer picture of what to expect from Star Trek: Picard Season 2 as we get another trailer and more information about the season begins to make its way online. The show definitely needs to re-energize the fans after a season that left longtime Trekkies feeling disappointed. Considering all the developments that happened by the time the first season wrapped up, there is a lot of goodwill to make up.
But maybe the return of Q is exactly what Star Trek: Picard Season 2 needs to give the series a shot in the arm. We will be watching his part of the new trailer more than a few times tonight, and we can only hope the rest of his appearances in the new season are as delightful as this sneak peek.
