Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi stars in Amazon Prime’s new thriller series The Devil’s Hour, which premiered on the streaming service on October 28, 2022. Since the show debuted, it has received great acclaim, with critics praising the brilliant casting choices, the intriguing plot, and the riveting performances by the actors. Currently, the series has a perfect score from critics on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, which is a rare accomplishment and undoubtedly a testament to just how good the show is.

Tom Moran began developing the Amazon series in December 2019, and Peter Capaldi was cast as a lead in The Devil’s Hour in June 2021 alongside Jessica Raine. Nikesh Patel, Meera Syal, Alex Ferns, Phil Dunster, Barbara Marten, and Benjamin Chivers make up the supporting cast. The series was written, created, and executive produced by Moran, with Johnny Allan and Isabelle Sieb serving as directors.

Peter Capaldi plays a character named Gideon on the show, which centers around a social worker, Lucy Chambers, who consistently wakes up every night at exactly 3:33 in the morning, smack dab in the middle of the so-called devil’s hour between 3 AM and 4 AM. A social worker and a mother to her unusually detached son, Lucy experiences visions of things that have never happened. At the same time, police investigate a seemingly random series of murders that are somehow connected to Lucy and her son.

One of the show’s biggest draws seems to be Peter Capaldi, whose performance is said to be spine-tingling. Prior to The Devil’s Hour, the Scottish thespian had a long and successful career as an actor, proving his versatility as a performer in over two dozen television series such as Fortysomething, Watership, The Musketeers, and The Hour. He’s also appeared in several motion picture roles including World War Z, The Fifth Estate, and Paddington.

Although critics are heaping praise on his latest performance, Peter Capaldi is arguably best known for portraying the 12th incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, which was likely long before the idea behind The Devil’s Hour was conceived. The 64-year-old actor first appeared as the Doctor in a cameo in the 50th-anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. After that, he had a role in the 2013 Christmas Special, The Time of the Doctor.

Peter Capaldi recently voiced the character of Seamus McGregor on the sixth season of the hit Netflix animated comedy series Big Mouth, which premiered on October 28, 2022. The hilariously inappropriate show, which is a far cry from The Devil’s Hour, follows teenage friends who find their lives upended by the wonders and horrors of puberty. Created by Jennifer Flackett, Andrew Goldberg, and Nick Kroll, the series features the voices of John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Maya Rudolph, Jenny Slate, and Jordan Peele.

Up next for Peter Capaldi is the crime thriller series Criminal Record, which follows a detective duo caught in a tug-of-war over a historic murder conviction. The series is currently filming and scheduled to premiere sometime in 2023. In the meantime, you can stream all six episodes of the first season of The Devil’s Hour on Amazon Prime.
