The Arnold Schwarzenegger Marvel Role Perfect For The Action Icon
Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most iconic action stars of the modern era, and it stands to reason that he would eventually show up in one of the biggest action franchises of all time — the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Arnie has even expressed interest in the idea of nabbing an MCU role, and his son-in-law Chris Pratt is a major part of it, so why hasn’t it happened yet? The hold-up could be finding the right role for the Austrian Oak, but it seems obvious that the recent rumors of Schwarzenegger playing Titanium Man in the Armor Wars movie should come true.
Even though Arnie is up there in years, he still strikes an imposing figure that would be perfect for the physically massive character of Titanium Man.
Titanium Man would be a great role for Arnold Schwarzenegger, and it would give him a chance to redeem himself for the last time he played a comic book villain as the corny but admittedly entertaining version of Mr. Freeze he played in the Joel Schumacher Batman movie.
Titanium Man is a former KGB agent with a hulking set of power armor of his own that allows him to go toe to toe with heroes like Iron Man and War Machine. Of course, with Tony Stark out of the picture, he would specifically be posing a challenge to Don Cheadle’s War Machine if he shows up in Marvel’s Armor Wars.
If we were casting peak Arnold Schwarzenegger, it would be easy to cast him in any number of muscle-bound Marvel superhero or villain roles, but the fact that the man is in his 70s means that his options are a little more limited.
Having his character in a massive suit of armor means that Arnie could often just provide the voice of the character rather than doing full-on action scenes. There are definitely a few other roles that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be perfect for, but those roles are seemingly already filled. Namely, Schwarzenegger would have made a great Cable or Colossus in the MCU. However, since the Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool franchise is making the jump to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, those roles are already perfectly played by Josh Brolin and Stefan Kapicic, respectively.
Still, seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger play Cable in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would have definitely been a cool move, as it would have been a subtle callback to his most iconic role as the Terminator. Having Arnold play a cybernetically enhanced character that can time travel? The Deadpool jokes practically write themselves.
With that being said, Josh Brolin fits the Cable role perfectly, so there’s no need to mess with that by recasting him with Arnold Schwarzenegger. That’s why Titanium Man would be the perfect role for him, as it wouldn’t be a huge commitment for Arnie if he didn’t want to sign up for too many movies, and the character would fit his stature and acting style perfectly.
The alternative could always be making him a relatively lesser-known character or an entirely new character that fits within the greater MCU storyline.
Schwarzenegger would have made a great Cable or Colossus in the MCU had those roles not already been claimed.
Specifically, having him play a badass, cigar-chomping agent of some kind would be cool. Think of him in a role like Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross or Robert Redford’s character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (without the Hydra connection). It would be a great way to bring Arnold Schwarzenegger into the Marvel fold without casting him in any major iconic hero or villain roles.
Regardless, bringing Arnold Schwarzenegger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is something that needs to happen at some point. Whether it be Titanium Man or another character, it’s something that the fans will undoubtedly love. We’ll just have to wait and see if the MCU decides to do it.
