Percy Jackson And The Olympians Season 2 Fate Decided
Disney+ has renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for Season 2. The announcement was made during the company’s first-quarter earnings call on February 7, a week after the conclusion of the first season. The series’ second outing will adapt Rick Riordan’s second novel, The Sea of Monsters, which sends Percy and his fellow demigods on a quest to find the Golden Fleece.
The Announcement
Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television, expressed excitement about Percy Jackson and the Olympians for Season 2, stating that the company is “thrilled to embark on an exciting new quest and a season two with Rick Riordan, our fantastic partners at 20th Television, and the exceptional ensemble of cast and creative talent that bring this story to life.
Author Rick Riordan, co-creator of the series alongside Jonathan Steinberg, is equally thrilled about the upcoming season. “I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+. Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!” Riordan’s involvement ensures a faithful adaptation of his novels, a factor that has resonated positively with fans.
Season 1 Dominated
The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was majorly successful, with a reported 13.3 million worldwide views for the show’s first episode within six days of release. The series, also available on Hulu in the United States, nearly doubled its viewership figures to 26.2 million after three weeks, figures which likely contributed to the renewal of Percy Jackson and the Olympians for Season 2.
The show also consistently ranked among the top 10 original shows in Nielsen’s streaming charts for the first three weeks, marking it as the biggest launch for a Disney+ series not associated with Marvel or Star Wars. Reviews for the series have been overwhelmingly positive, with critics highlighting the show’s faithfulness to Riordan’s source material.
Much Closer To The Books
In contrast to the 2010 feature film adaptation, Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been praised for its accurate portrayal of the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief, garnering approval from hardcore fans and even the author. A series order for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 can also be attributed to the dedicated creative team.
Co-creators Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, along with showrunner Dan Shotz, have steered the ship with expertise. The executive producers, including Rebecca Riordan, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg, have played a crucial role in bringing this fantastical world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians to the small screen and will continue to do so in Season 2.
The Sea Of Monsters
The Sea of Monsters, on which Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is based, was released in 2006. The story continues the adventures of Percy and Annabeth Chase, accompanied by the new character Tyson, a cyclops. Together, the trio went in search of the Golden Fleece, which is essential for saving Camp Half-Blood and rescuing Grover Underwood from the mythical Cyclops Polyphemus.
The Cast
The cast of the Percy Jackson series includes Walker Scobell as the titular demigod and the son of Poseidon. Leah Sava Jeffries plays Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena with five years of training at Camp Half-Blood. Aryan Simhadri plays Grover Underwood, Percy’s steadfast best friend and a satyr adeptly disguised through magical means as a twelve-year-old boy.
Additional casting for new roles Percy Jackson and the Olympians will likely take place in the coming and will be revealed in due course along with the Season 2 release date.
