The Percy Jackson reboot on Disney+ has cast three more roles to add to their take on the world of the Olympians. Among them is former wrestling star Adam Copeland, and according to Variety, he will be a frequent guest star. It was also announced that Suzanne Cryer and Jessica Parker Kennedy would be joining the cast.

Adam Copeland will be playing the Greek god Ares, who is known for being handsome, hotheaded, and confrontational. Copeland is a WWE Hall of Famer whose ring name is Edge, and he has played both hero and villain in the ring. He retired in 2011 due to numerous neck injuries but returned in 2020.

Outside of wrestling, Adam Copeland has appeared in the Syfy show Haven, CW’s The Flash, and the historical drama Vikings. He was also in Highlander: Endgame and Money Plane in 2000 and 2020 respectively, showing long experience as an actor as well as a wrestling personality. The combination of wrestling ring theatrics and acting experience brings a perfect blend to a character like Ares.

The Percy Jackson books were written by Rick Riordan and follow the titular character as he discovers he is the descendant of the Greek god Poseidon. This revelation introduces him to a secret level of society in which the Greek gods are living in today’s world. He becomes friends with a satyr named Grover and a girl named Annabeth, who is the daughter of the goddess Athena.

The first two novels in the series were adapted into movies in 2010 and 2013, neither of which did as well as hoped at the box office. A third movie was proposed but never came to fruition because of the lack of performance of the other two. The Percy Jackson reboot on Disney+ will reintroduce audiences to the stories in a longer format than a one-shot movie.

One reason to hope that the Disney+ series will improve on the movies is the direct involvement of Rick Riordan in production. Riordan will be co-writing the pilot as well as executive producing the show. The show is set to premiere sometime in 2024, a delay from previous rumors of a 2023 release.

The Percy Jackson reboot stars Walker Scobell as the titular character, with Aryan Simhadri as Grover and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth. The cast also includes Jason Gray-Stanford, Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullaly, and Charlie Bushnell as well as the recently announced cast members. Suzanne Cryer joins the cast as Echidna, The Mother of Monsters, and Jessica Parker Kennedy is playing the snake-haired Gorgon Medusa.

Disney showed audiences the first glimpse of the Percy Jackson reboot at the D23 convention in September, and filming is underway in Vancouver. It is being filmed by Disney property 20th Television, with James Bobin directing the pilot episode. A teaser trailer has also been released which hints at the world Disney+ is creating.

A Percy Jackson reboot has a lot of rich source material to draw from, and the books were fan favorites. The reboot is highly anticipated by fans old and new since the series format can show us more of Percy Jackson’s world. Stay tuned for more news as it’s released.
