Exclusive: Pedro Pascal Attached To Scarface Remake
This time when he introduces you to his “little friend,” he won’t mean Baby Yoda. That’s the word from our trusted and proven sources who tell us Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) has been tapped to star in Universal’s long-brewing Scarface remake. The upcoming film will update the story, giving the titular crime lord a new background and setting.
We’ve exclusively learned Pedro Pascal is attached to lead the Scarface remake.
We don’t know what Pascal’s character’s full name will be yet (though there’s a decent chance his first name will be Tony), but we know the Scarface remake will move the story to modern day Los Angeles. Rather than the Cuban immigrant Al Pacino played in the 1983 film, Pedro Pascal will play a Mexican immigrant climbing the ranks of the criminal underworld as he strives for the American Dream.
While the Al Pacino version is more well known these days, the 1983 version of Scarface was itself a remake of a 1932 film starring Paul Muni as an Italian crime lord, Tony Camonte. In the cases of both Pacino’s Tony Montana and Muni’s Tony Camonte, the experience of being immigrants in the United States was central to the narrative. Our sources tell us the core immigrant experience story of those earlier films will carry over into Pedro Pascal’s version.
This is the most significant news we’ve received on the Scarface remake in almost three years, when it was rumored another actor was attached. In late 2020, Newsweek and others recycled an unconfirmed report from insider Daniel Richtman that it would instead be Michael B. Jordan (Creed III) leading the reboot.
This is the most significant news we’ve received on the Scarface remake in three years, when it was rumored another actor was attached. In late 2020, Newsweek and others recycled an unconfirmed report from insider Daniel Richtman that it would instead be Michael B. Jordan (Creed III) leading the reboot. Whether that was true at the time and things have changed, or the report was inaccurate to begin with, we don’t currently know.
[I]f the Scarface remake follows suit with its predecessors, Pascal’s character is bound to not only be as violent as The Last of Us‘ Joel and Game of Thrones‘ Oberyn, but equally ruthless, cruel, and doomed to fall in a maniacal blaze of glory.
The fact that Pedro Pascal has agreed to star in the Scarface remake could be a sign he’s hoping to dirty up his image as the Internet’s Daddy. To date, Pascal’s most prominent roles have turned him into sci-fi’s most beloved babysitter, with the actor’s heroes dedicated to protecting Grogu in The Mandalorian, and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in HBO’s The Last of Us. Even his more violent characters, like Game of Thrones‘ Oberyn Martell, are nevertheless sympathetic.
But if the Scarface remake follows suit with its predecessors, Pascal’s character is bound to not only be as violent as The Last of Us‘ Joel and Game of Thrones‘ Oberyn, but equally ruthless, cruel, and doomed to fall in a maniacal blaze of glory. He’ll bear no resemblance to a Star Wars hero uttering, “This is the way.”
Once we receive more word on the Scarface remake, we’ll make sure to update you.
