Pedro Pascal Fantastic Four Casting Revealed
After months of speculation suggesting Pedro Pascal may be starring in the new Fantastic Four franchise, the official SAG-AFTRA Foundation website seems to have let the cat out of the bag. This is pretty big news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the plans moving forward.
Pedro Pascal Playing Reed Richards?
Pascal has been rumored to be in talks for the role of Reed Richards, AKA Mr. Fantastic, though it remains unclear at this time if the official casting was meant to remain a secret.
Regardless, the prolific actor’s career retrospective states clearly that Pedro Pascal is slated to begin production on the Marvel film soon.
Pedro Pascal + Disney
The upcoming Fantastic Four film will be the first entry of the superhero franchise into the Disney-owned MCU. The character rights and trademark for the super-powered quartet previously belonged to 21st Century Fox.
For Pedro Pascal, this will serve as one of many ongoing Disney projects to bear his name. The beloved actor has already starred in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and a host of other Disney-owned movies and shows.
Disney acquired the rights to the Fantastic Four when they swallowed Fox back in 2019, also gaining characters such as Deadpool and the X-Men in the process.
John Krasinski Not Back As Mr. Fantastic
Disney has already flexed a few of its newly acquired characters in films such as Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, which revived Patrick Stewart’s beloved Professor Charles Xavier, and showcased John Krasinski in the role of Reed Richards.
Krasinski was long thought to have been attached to the role for the forthcoming Fantastic Four film but ultimately did not sign on to star in multiple pictures as the main-universe Mr. Fantastic.
Though Pedro Pascal has been increasingly present in our hearts and minds in the last several years, popping up in a wide array of materials, the upcoming Fantastic Four film will serve as his first entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool Also On The Way
Marvel is also expected to blend the Deadpool film franchise with the wider MCU in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool 3. It will surely contain a number of fourth-wall-shattering jokes regarding the franchise’s confusing canon, having swapped cinematic universes two-thirds of the way into a trilogy.
Hugh Jackman is also poised to reprise his iconic portrayal of Wolverine in the film, providing the MCU’s first official showing of the character. Pedro Pascal and his co-stars are expected to follow suit in the Fantastic Four movie in May of 2025.
No Other Rumors Confirmed
Though the SAG-AFTRA site seemingly blew the lid on Pedro Pascal’s Fantastic Four casting, there is still no confirmation of who else will star in the film.
Vanessa Kirby and The Bear‘s Ebon Moss-Bachrach are listed as rumored stars via IMDb, though they have not been officially announced to star at this time.
If the rumors are true, however, Kirby and Moss-Bachrach are set to portray Sue Storm and Ben Grimm respectively, AKA the Invisible Woman and The Thing.
Fantastic Four Gearing Up
The Pedro Pascal-led Fantastic Four film also lists Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes scribe Josh Friedman as the screenwriter, and WandaVision filmmaker Matt Shakman to direct.
All in all, the first Fantastic Four film in the Disney-owned canon is shaping up to fire on all cylinders, which is surely exciting news for fans who have already had to suffer through multiple poorly-received iterations of these beloved characters.
