Pedro Pascal Cast In Adaptation Of Stephen King’s Best Work?
Rumors are swirling that Pedro Pascal may star in a new television version of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.
If you’re a fan of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series, you know how much the 2017 movie adaptation starring Idris Elba was a major disappointment. However, fans have something to be hopeful about because it looks like genre legends Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy have acquired the rights to adapt this iconic series into both standalone movies and a television show, with Flanagan having already written a pilot and outlined plans for multiple seasons. If that’s not exciting enough, Flanagan recently met with Pedro Pascal, causing many fans to speculate that the popular actor will star in the upcoming The Dark Tower adaptation.
It’s worth noting that so far, Pedro Pascal starring in The Dark Tower is just speculation, but Flanagan wasn’t shy about snapping selfies with the star when they met. This could be a form of slow-boil marketing where Flanagan and crew let the sheer fan excitement over Pascal getting potentially cast help hype up the upcoming movies and show. However, depending on Pascal’s potential involvement with yet another franchise, it may be difficult for him to find the time to headline this series.
Currently, Pedro Pascal is starring in the hit series The Last of Us, all while continuing to dazzle audiences as the titular hero in The Mandalorian. Between television projects, he has starred in big-screen movies that are awesome (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) and not so awesome (Wonder Woman 1984). If Pedro Pascal does agree to be in an adaptation of The Dark Tower, he may do so because a hit genre film could establish him as a full-fledged movie star instead of simply being the hottest working actor on television.
While all of the hype right now is focusing on whether or not Pedro Pascal will appear in The Dark Tower or not, it’s also worth considering whether the show would be a streaming show or one that broadcasts on a more traditional television network. On one hand, streaming would allow The Dark Tower to show off Stephen King’s world in all its gritty glory, and streamers hungry for unique content might be willing to foot the bill for both multiple movies and a multi-season television show for the right property and showrunners. On the other hand, Flanagan and Macy are both still angry at Netflix for canceling their amazing show The Midnight Club, so it would be understandable if they were a bit gun-shy about working with streamers.
One person who is never gun-shy is the gunslinger of the franchise, Roland Deschain, a character who must navigate a series of increasingly-bizarre challenges and meet a strange array of characters on his quixotic quest to reach the tower. Since Pedro Pascal is such a hot commodity in Hollywood now, fans have been speculating that if he stars in The Dark Tower at all, it would be to play Deschain. We can’t deny that Pascal’s involvement would mean instant buy-in from his biggest fans, but we’re still simply crossing our trigger fingers that Flanagan and Macy are able to finally do this Stephen King series justice.
