Peaky Blinders is a series that has received incredible accolades and recognition for the acting, screenplay, and of course, the gorgeous and realistic looking sets. However, one of the shooting locations known as Dalton Mills, has tragically been destroyed recently in a massive fire on Thursday. The set is located in Keighley, West Yorkshire and around 100 firefighters responded to the devastating fire. Although the set was destroyed, people were fortunately not injured in the fire.
According to Deadline, the fire took place around noon and was also when fire teams were called to the scene. Initially, according to TMZ, the actual cause of the devastating fire was unknown. But after a quick turnaround of investigation, it seems that the cause of the fire might have been potentially due to arson. According to the BBC, five people have been arrested due to being suspects as arsonists in the Dalton Mills fire and have been questioned. The fire itself was definitely a big one, and completely destroyed the location.
According to the BBC, Benjy Bush, the Bradford District Commander, discussed the fire and how it was a hard battle to overcome. Bush stated, “It was a really ferocious, challenging fire, we had 20 fire engines and two aerial appliances here, the police and ambulance were on the scene, as well as utilities and Bradford Council.” On social media, individuals have posted the fire as it was taking place. The videos show intense black smoke ravaging Dalton Mills at a very fast speed. One Twitter user posted a video showing how the fire ruthlessly engulfed the location in what seemed like a matter of seconds. See the post below:
Dalton Mills was an iconic location used for various television shows. Not only was Peaky Blinders filmed there, but also the well-known series Downton Abbey. Dalton Mills is not only iconic for its appearances in multiple productions, but also its long history. Dalton Mills was built way back in the late 1880s, and was initially used as a large textile mill in Yorkshire. At the height of its time as a mill, there were a whopping 2,000 employees that worked at the mill. Due to its Victorian architecture, the location became a hotspot for a beautiful filming location.
Peaky Blinders first premiered back in 2013, and has had a long run since its initial release. Some of the cast in the show include Cillian Murphy, Helen McCroy, Tom Hardy, and Anya Taylor-Joy. The series can be watched on Netflix and has had a total of six seasons so far. The premise of the show revolves around a crime gang, known as the Peaky Blinders, starting in 1919 Birmingham, England. The series has been nominated for awards such as the BAFTA Television Craft Awards and the TV Choice Awards. With the tragic fire taking place, future filming of the series will have to change location, which will be difficult due to Dalton Mills being such an ideal and prime location for the production. As of now, British police are investigating fire as a possible arson. If arson was the cause, it is a tragic reason for Dalton Mills to have been destroyed.
