PAW Patrol: The Movie cannot be stopped. Production on the feature film version of the hit children’s television show is continuing along remotely, and a major announcement has been made. We now have a rundown of the voice cast and there are a few notable celebrity actors that will be lending their talents to this newest incarnation of the popular series.
PAW Patrol: The Movie will feature the voices of Kim Kardashian West, Iain Armitage (Young Sheldon), Jimmy Kimmel (Teen Titans Go! To the Movies), Tyler Perry (the Madea series), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), Dax Shepard (The Ranch), Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish), and Marsai Martin (Black-ish). It has not yet been made clear which roles these actors will be portraying. The series has had multiple voice actors perform the same role in the past, so it will be interesting to see which pups these stars will be voicing.
It is a little surprising that it has taken this long for a feature film version of PAW Patrol to manifest. The television series has been a consistent hit and has now been airing for seven seasons. The series has made a significant cultural impact, being referenced by such high profile figures as Justin Timberlake and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The show’s popularity is undeniable at this point. A feature film was inevitable.
However, there was some potential controversy brewing due to one of the PAW Patrol lead characters being a police officer. The Onion ran a satirical article about police officer character Chase and it actually brought up some discussion about the prominence of police officer characters in children’s media. It is unclear exactly how prominent Chase will be in the feature film, but he is one of the most prominent characters on the show. It is likely he will be featured as a main character.
It is going to be interesting to see if PAW Patrol: The Movie ends up being a sizable hit or not. The feature film is scheduled to release in theaters on August 20, 2021. considering the state of movie theaters today, we aren’t even sure if there will be theatrical releases in a year. Considering the show’s prominence on television and families’ desire for more in-home entertainment, it would not be the biggest surprise if this one ended up heading to streaming or video-on-demand.
We don’t have any specifics on the plot of PAW Patrol: The Movie or if there are any plans to expand the film series beyond this initial outing. Could this be the beginning of the PAW Patrol cinematic universe? Can we expect some spinoffs from this feature film? Most importantly, has anyone checked to see if Ryan Reynolds is rumored for this? Because he seems to be rumored for every other project under the sun. How is he not involved in PAW Patrol? The property is a Canadian production and Reynolds is a proud Canadian. Not getting him for this film feels like a national tragedy.
