Patton Oswalt would be down to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if Harry Styles were also along for the ride.

From his early days in comedy, actor, producer, and writer Patton Oswalt has had a string of hits that just seem to keep coming. The narrator of ABC’s The Goldbergs has been on top of A-list content for many years, especially with his supporting work in movies and television like Young Adult, A.P. Bio, Veep, The King of Queens, and the recent Gaslit with Julia Roberts. Oswalt even decided to dip his toe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his take on Pip the Troll in the Phase 4 mixed-bag that was 2021’s Eternals. It seems that with this character comes great responsibility as ongoing rumors of a spin-off possibly in the works surround Oswalt and one of his costars.
According to an interview with Comic Book, Patton Oswalt commented on the rumors that a potential sequel could be happening that would end up starring his character Pip alongside Harry Styles’ character of Eros. In the comics, Eros is also known as Starfox, and talk of a spin-off with these B-level characters from Eternals has been circling around for quite a while. In the interview with comicbook.com, Oswalt noted that he has not heard about these rumors before but would be willing to see the idea come to light since he believes Marvel does a tremendous job at highlighting the storylines of some of its minor characters.
With no actual confirmation in place so far for a spin-off starring Patton Oswalt and Harry Styles, something of a sequel to Eternals would be interesting news for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As of today, Eternals has a very mixed reaction from critics and audiences on aggregator sites. Rotten Tomatoes currently has the MCU entry rated with a 47% on its Tomatometer among 398 reviews from critics but has a better rating on its Audience Score of 78% from verified viewers of the film. In contrast, Metacritic shows Eternals with a Metascore of 52, which denotes mixed or average reviews amongst its 62 reviews from critics, while the User Score is set to 6.3 which shows that the film was generally favored by the users of the site.
Even though audiences seemed to enjoy Eternals more than critics when it comes to reviews, the box office numbers don’t lie about the appeal of future storylines from this part of the franchise. With a gross of just over $400 million, the Chloe Zhao-helmed film is viewed as one of the least profitable of the MCU’s movies, according to the list provided by IMDB. Without the demand for a sequel or spin-off of a lukewarmly-received movie, it doesn’t seem likely that Marvel will green light a project that would star Patton Oswalt and Harry Styles at this point in time. For his part, Oswalt will soon be busy promoting the upcoming release of the Netflix series The Sandman, just as Harry Styles will be getting ready to advocate for his upcoming role in Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling. Both projects are due to be released to audiences later this year.
