As always, Marvel is keeping everything around their next blockbuster hush-hush. After Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire repeatedly kept mum about their potential appearances in the massive Spider-Man: No Way Home, we have another famous former hero giving wry replies to Marvel-related interview questions. Patrick Stewart, aka Professor Charles Xavier, is not giving us an inch on that potential appearance in the latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer.
In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Patrick Stewart was lightly quizzed about his supposed cameo. He gave some pretty funny responses to dodge the question, saying “people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago” and that he “can’t be held responsible for that.” He also mentioned that tons of people contacted him after the trailer aired during the Super Bowl, asking if it was him. His reply to that being “I was just at home, waiting to watch football. So, how could it possibly have been me?” With these cheeky responses, it’s hard to believe that he’s not going to be in the movie. Andrew Garfield had some similar fun with interviewers when he was getting grilled about Spider-Man.
If you’ve missed the most recent Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer, you see Strange walking up to a futuristic-looking room escorted by what appears to be Ultron bots. We then hear what many speculate to be the very familiar, unmistakable voice of Patrick Stewart. We also see a very familiar, pretty clear bald head in the corner of the screen. With the Multiverse being incorporated into the MCU, it opens up tons of possibilities. And if Marvel can organically bring in beloved characters, the fans are going to be for it. Now that Disney acquired Fox, they can put X-Men characters in their Marvel movies, so it’s definitely well within the realm of possibility.
The last time we saw Patrick Stewart as Professor X was in 2017’s Logan. This fantastic movie was a great sendoff for both Stewart’s character and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Seemingly, this would be the last time either of them would reprise their iconic roles, but with Marvel, you never know.
Patrick Stewart isn’t the only rumored superhero to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We know that Elizabeth Olsen is in as Scarlet Witch and that Xochitl Gomez will be appearing as America Chavez. But rumors also abound of other potential characters including Tom Cruise as a Tony Stark/Iron Man variant, Hayley Atwell as the super-soldier What If…? version of Peggy Carter, and even Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. There is some precedence to this since a third Deadpool movie has been confirmed to take place in the MCU. Patrick Stewart still seems like the most likely out of this bunch, but again, Marvel is always full of surprises.
One thing is certain — Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is coming out on May 6, 2022, and will likely have some pretty big repercussions for the MCU at large. Make sure to tune in to potentially see Patrick Stewart and much more chaos happen.
