The modern streaming era has brought a number of exciting new adjustments to the television watching experience, most notably the popularization of binge-viewing. One unfortunate side-effect of this change, however, is the often extended wait in between seasons of your favorite shows, especially with landmark events such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023 slowing and halting production schedules. Luckily, the long-awaited second season of the hit Sylvester Stallone series Tulsa King is finally right around the corner, offering fans a great excuse to re-binge the first installment.

For those that don’t know, Tulsa King is a Paramount+ original crime dramedy starring Stallone which originally aired its first season back in 2022. The show, which currently offers only 9 episodes, each roughly 40 minutes in length, has encountered a series of production roadblocks behind the scenes since its first season premiered.

This includes in-fighting between the producers and talent, as well as a change of scenery which will take subsequent production outside of Tulsa, where the narrative will continue to take place.

Terence Winter

For starters, Tulsa King co-creators Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter have had some kind of falling out while working on the series’ second season, resulting in Winter departing the project.

Before taking on showrunner duties for Tulsa King, Winter was primarily known for serving as a producer on The Sopranos before branching off to create the HBO mob drama Boardwalk Empire.

Taylor Sheridan, on the other hand, is known for having penned the screenplay of films such as Sicario and co-creating another major Paramount hit in Yellowstone.

Winter’s Return

Despite exiting the showrunner role, Terence Winter returned to produce and write for Tulsa King‘s second season, so confusion has only continued to swirl in the minds of fans everywhere.

For now, nobody has any real idea of what season 2 will bring, though many fans are holding out hope that the show will maintain its high watermark of quality. Luckily, we’ll all soon have the chance to find out, once the second season premieres on September 15.
