Owen Wilson’s New Movie Just Set An Incredible Record
The new Owen Wilson film is being appreciated by tons of people, so much so, that it has now set an incredible record on Paramount+.
Owen Wilson might have found his home in the superhero genre. He was a hit in the MCU series Loki, which he is returning in for season two. He also has a new film on Paramount+ called Secret Headquarters. The film is similar in nature to Spy Kids. The family comedy sees a kid discover the secret lair of the world’s most popular superhero. The family action comedy has been well on the streaming platform. So well, in fact, that it has now set an incredible record. The film has become the most watched original film in its first week of release in Paramount+ history. That is huge considering the platform contains hugely popular films like Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe and the numerous South Park entries.
Secret Headquarters has broken viewership records on the streaming platform, leading to a response from the executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Paramount Streaming, Domenic DiMeglio. According to DiMeglio, “We’re thrilled audiences have fallen in love with this fun, action-packed adventure.” This is good news for Owen Wilson, who might be asked to reprise this role in a sequel.
As previously mentioned, Secret Headquarters follows Charlie (Walker Scobell) and his friends who accidentally discover that Charlie’s father is a superhero known as The Guard (Owen Wilson). The Guard receives his powers from an alien artifact that Charlie and his father Jack have grown apart from Jack’s job being a superhero taking precedence over his relationship with his son. Jack tries to rectify this by allowing Charlie to bring his friends Berger, Lizzie, and Maya over. However, the kids stumble on Jack’s secret lair. A villain by the name of Ansel Argon discovers the lair and attempts to secure his own suit for nefarious purposes. The kids fight back using Jack’s gadgets. Without ruining the rest of the film, everyone can watch the film on Paramount+ right now.
Joining Owen Wilson and Walker Scobell as Jack Kincaid and Charlie Kincaid in Secret Headquarters are Jesse Williams, Keith L. Williams, Momona Tamada, Michael Peña, Abby James Witherspoon, Kezii Curtis, and Jessie Mueller. Secret Headquarters was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. Joost and Schulman work as a directing team who have previously directed Project Power, Paranormal Activity 3, and Nerve.
Walker Scobell is certainly making a name for himself after he costarred alongside Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project. He now stars in Secret Headquarters with Owen Wilson and is set to be the new Percy Jackson in the reboot franchise. He might be a big reason why the film has gained such huge status at Paramount+. Well, that and partnering his sarcastic humor with Wilsons. That is surely a winning combination.
The Owen Wilson-led film is doing great things for Paramount+, which could warrant an immediate sequel. Secret Headquarters is currently streaming on the platform in U.S. and Canada, with a plan to send the movie to international markets later this year, given they have Paramount+ available. The action family comedy is a fun watch, especially for those who remember how awesome Robert Rodriquez’s Spy Kids was. It’s that good.
