One Piece Breakout Star Joins New Daisy Ridley Movie
News posted via Deadline dropped this week highlighting Taz Skylar’s next big role in the upcoming film Cleaner. After the colossal success of his performance as Sanji in the live-action Netflix original series One Piece, Skylar has begun scooping up more prominent roles in various films.
His next movie will drop before the opening of Cleaner, and he will be on the big screen starring in a film he both wrote and stars in called Gassed Up. Gassed Up had its world premiere this week at the London Film Festival.
Taz Skylar is getting noticed since appearing as Sanji in One Piece, and his next big role will be opposite Star Wars icon Daisy Ridley.
Taz Skylar plays the role of Dubz in the film. The movie features a character named Ash (Stephen Odubola), who works hard to raise money to take care of his little sister and send his addicted mother to rehab.
The role Skylar plays in Cleaner is still relatively unknown. He could be one of the hijackers with a heart. He could be an inept hostage (like Bruce Willis in Die Hard), or he could be a janitor on the inside working with Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley on the outside to ultimately gain control of the situation and save the day.
Before Cleaner, Taz Skylar will appear in Gassed Up, a film he both wrote and stars in.
Regardless of his role, it’s exciting to see newcomer Taz Skylar land such a big role alongside Daisy Ridley. Ridley will be playing the role of a window cleaner who gets wrapped up in the drama going on inside the building she is cleaning and is then forced to combine her prior military experience with her abilities as a window cleaner to help diffuse the situation.
The action-thriller movie features the story of a group of radical activists who hijack a large energy company’s annual gala event inside one of London’s most notable skyscrapers, The Shard. Taz Skylar is a perfect fit for the setting and the genre of the film.
The hijackers in the movie originally intend on using their intrusion to out the corruption of the hosts, but the scene turns more dangerous when one of the hijackers goes off-grid with his actions. While 300 people are held hostage, Joey Locke (Daisy Ridley’s character) has to figure out how to help while being suspended 90 stories in the air.
Taz Skylar’s role in Cleaner has yet to be revealed; he could be the villain, he could be a hostage, or he could be a janitor.
Martin Campbell (director of The Mask of Zorro and Casino Royale) is the director of Cleaner, and the film is set to Taz Skylar and the rest of the cast to work shooting in London at the beginning of 2024. Effectively falling under the British Equity Act, the movie will be legally permitted to shoot, even though the current SAG strike is not yet fully resolved.
There’s no official word on when the film will hit movie theaters, but you can be sure there will be plenty of people in line to see what Taz Skylar has up his sleeve for this performance. In the meantime, you can find Taz Skylar killing it in his role as Sanji from (a womanizing chef who is skilled in martial arts and hopes to one day provide good food to all) One Piece streaming on Netflix with a subscription.
