Netflix One Piece Season 2 Casts DC Star As The Perfect Villain
Hype is building for Netflix’s live-action One Piece Season 2, and the cast list is slowly growing. David Dastmalchian, best known for his roles in DC’s Suicide Squad, Late Night with the Devil, and Dune, is joining the cast as Mr. 3, one of the members of the Baroque Works criminal organization. Along with Dastmalchian’s casting, it was also announced that Jazzara Jaslyn will play Miss Valentine, Camrus Johnson will play Mr. 5, and Daniel Lasker will play Mr. 9.
The New Mr. 3
Fans of the manga and anime will know that the introduction of Baroque Works in One Piece Season 2 means we’ll also likely be meeting their leader, Crocodile. However, key characters in the upcoming arc, like Crocodile and Nico Robin, still haven’t been cast. It’ll be interesting to see who is cast as these crucial, fan-favorite characters.
Other Additions
Along with adding big names like David Dastmalchian to the roster, it was also announced that One Piece Season 2 will add Joe Tracz (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Matt Owens will stay on as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner after handling the first season with Steve Maeda. Maeda, meanwhile, will step back into just an executive producer role.
Other New Cast
The newly announced cast members join the previously announced new Season 2 cast that includes Werner Coetser as Dorry, Brendan Murray as Brogy, and Clive Russell as Crocus. Owens previously teased that One Piece Season 2 will also have a big focus on Dr. Kureha and Chopper will also be introduced. In other words, the second season has a lot to juggle, but if it can maintain the quality and care of the first season, then it should be another hit for Netflix.
The Return Of Old Friends
One Piece Season 2 will also see the return of main cast members Inaki Godoy as Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Zoro, Jacob Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
The series tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his goal to become King of the Pirates by obtaining the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. The first season saw Luffy assembling his crew of Straw Hat Pirates and defeating the Arlong Pirates.
It was previously announced that One Piece Season 2 will see the Straw Hat Pirates sailing the Grand Line. So, the world of the Netflix show is about to get a lot bigger.
We’ll have to see if that also translates to bigger viewership numbers, which is already going to be a difficult bar to hop over.
Season 1 Was A Huge Hit
The first season of the live-action adaptation raked in over 37 million views in less than two weeks and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries.
The series was a massive and unexpected hit, and even fans of the anime and manga enjoyed it, which often doesn’t happen with live-action anime adaptations. Needless to say, the expectations for One Piece Season 2 are high.
In any case, Netflix is going all in with the One Piece franchise. Along with One Piece Season 2, the streamer is also working on a remake of the beloved anime.
In the meantime, you can stream the first season of the live-action show on Netflix now and look forward to the second season coming sometime in 2025.
