One Piece Fans Get Dr. Vegapunk Reveal
After years of waiting, One Piece dubbed fans will see and hear Dr. Vegapunk for the first time later this year. Subbed fans already had a chance to see him earlier this year, voiced by Tadano Yohei (Megalo Box). However, it wasn’t until the San Diego Comic-Con that dubbed viewers had a chance to learn that Kent Williams (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) was to be the voice for this major character.
Dr. Vegapunk
During a recording for The Anime Effect, a podcast by Crunchyroll, Kent Williams announced that he would be the voice actor for Dr. Vegapunk. This isn’t Kent Williams’ first time appearing in the dubbed version of One Piece. He also played Kuro during the East Blue Saga.
In the podcast, Robert McCollum (Attack on Titan), who plays Donquixote Doflamingo, and Chris Rager (Dragon Ball Z Kai), who plays Blackbeard and Arlong talked with the podcast’s hosts to talk about their experiences voice acting for One Piece. However, they didn’t show up alone. Kent Williams also appeared to talk about his role in the show and revealed the exciting information.
From Background To Spotlight
Though he only shows up for a couple of episodes at the moment, the appearance of Dr. Vegapunk in One Piece as well as who will be voicing the character is big news. This will be the first time people see the doctor, even though he’s been mentioned a few times across hundreds of episodes. This will make him one of the characters that took the longest to appear in any anime after his name was first brought up.
First Mentioned Years Ago
Throughout One Piece, Dr. Vegapunk’s name has been spoken several times. He’s a major background character and was first mentioned during the Post-Enies Lobby Arc, episode 315, or chapter 433 of the manga. However, his first actual appearance isn’t until much later in the story.
It’s not until episode 1090 of the One Piece anime that fans get to actually see the famous doctor. This episode aired in January of 2024. However, this was just the original subbed episodes.
The Dub Is Dozens Of Episodes Behind
For those wanting to watch One Piece dubbed, the story is about 44 episodes behind. With episodes released weekly, the dubbed version of the anime is nearly a year behind the subbed version. Additionally, the dubbed version fluctuates with how far behind it is, with it even being five years behind at one point, so fans weren’t entirely sure when a dubbed version of episode 1090 would come out.
Episode 1090 of One Piece is Season 15, Voyage One, and starts on Episode 1086. The dubbed versions are set to hit Crunchyroll starting on September 17th. This means, barring any problems, the episode featuring Dr. Vegapunk will be available on Crunchyroll in the middle of October.
Get Caught Up Before Vegapunk Arrives
If you’re ready to finally see Dr. Vegapunk, this is a good time to get caught up on any episodes you might have not watched yet. Netflix and Crunchyroll both have all the episodes of One Piece if you’re ready to dive into this ridiculously long series. Additionally, if you want to listen to The Anime Effect, it will premiere on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Crunchyroll, and YouTube on August 2, 2024.
