Olivia Wilde doesn’t think movie sex scenes have been good for a long time, and now she’s hoping to use her upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling to help correct the course of how lovemaking is handled on-screen. The actress and director is following up her 2019 directorial debut Booksmart with the upcoming feature Don’t Worry Darling starring Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde’s real-life romantic flame, Harry Styles. Speaking in a lengthy cover story for Vogue, the actress explained that she wanted to reimagine the way that sex scenes are handled, noting that one moment in particular in the upcoming film is sure to set the world ablaze with pure provocative interest.
The outlet reports that the scene in question sees a “hard-working Styles” and a “gratified Pugh” in a sex scene together. Olivia Wilde reportedly had a lot to say about the technicalities of blocking the scene and shooting it, getting into the weeds on camera angles and movement. However, she also gave a little insight into her creative process when she noted that audiences will likely be surprised to see the kind of pleasure a female experiences in the movie. She also explained that she hopes to wake viewers up to the fact that they rarely see the kind of “female hunger” being depicted.
The outlet reports that Olivia Wilde used movies like Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal as springboards for the type of sex scene she wants to be known for as a director, calling them “really sexy in a grown-up way.” Regardless, given the fact that former One Direction band member Harry Styles is going to be a part of a sex scene in any capacity is sure to turn heads and get his fans talking if not hyperventilating.
Aside from the knowledge that it will contain at least one pretty steamy and groundbreaking sex scene, not too much else is known about Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling. However, thanks to some footage that debuted in September, fans of her and the two actors involved are putting it atop their lists of highly anticipated movies of the New Year, even if it’s not due until September.
The second directorial outing from Olivia Wilde shows Florence Pugh in a suburban 1950s-inspired setting living what appears to be a quiet life of luxury. As the story progresses, Harry Styles is seen and it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems under the surface of the idyllic Americana community. At one point Pugh’s character is holding a knife, in another instance, she’s got a gun to her head but looks completely unphased by that fact and the trailer even ends with her wrapping plastic wrap around her in an effort to suffocate herself for some reason that’s either twisted, sexy or both.
Meanwhile, there will likely be a lot of tabloid fodder surrounding the release of the movie given that Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles are currently in a Hollywood romance. After splitting with her longtime partner, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, Olivia Wilde began dating the singer after he was cast in the movie to replace Shia LaBeouf. Apparently, if the director hadn’t flexed on the troubled star, who she later told People was essentially an “a–hole” on set, their love may never have taken off.
