Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi has been fully released, more details have begun to pour out about one of the most talked-about Star Wars shows ever created. One of the biggest reveals is that the initial plan was the series was meant to be a trilogy of films that centered around Obi-Wan’s journey after the events of Revenge of the Sith. However, one of the deciding factors for not moving forward on that was how poorly Solo did in theaters. The Disney brass figured no one wanted to see legacy characters get their own films. Now, we have learned that an even bigger detail had been cut out of the film’s original script, and possibly the beginning of the script for the show. Everyone’s favorite clone trooper, Captain Cody, was apparently supposed to have a huge part in the backstory of the originally planned films and the new series.

Captain Cody became one of the most recognized clone troopers for his iconic orange armor. The character was also a huge part of the Clone Wars cartoon. According to a writer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Stuart Beattie, “Yeah, yeah. Cody was the big one. I love the idea of Obi-Wan having a buddy on Tatooine. Like a secret buddy. So like the first time he goes into town, you see, Cody, and he’s following him through the streets and attacks him, takes him into an alley with a knife to his throat and says, ‘You’re dead.’ And then you realize, ‘Oh, no… Cody’s making a point.’ Like, ‘Come on. You got to be more careful.'” This would have been a wonderful dynamic that would have bridged the gap on even more Star Wars continuity, but it was sadly cut out, likely because the films were turned into mini-series. Cody teaching Obi-Wan to be stealthier would have been amazing.

Despite the success and criticisms of Obi-Wan Kenobi, there has been no mention of if there is going to be a second season. Both Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor have voiced their wishes to extend the story of both Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. Should Disney move on with an additional season, it might make hearing about this movie plan sting a bit more. Quite honestly, plenty of us would have loved to see Obi-Wan’s fractured past be more explored through a series of films. Despite the show having some obvious flaws, the fan service for the series was off the charts. It was like seeing Vader return in Rogue One.

For now, fans will have to make do with what we have been given. Obi-Wan Kenobi was fantastic for the sheer dynamic that Anakin had with Obi-Wan. We got to see why Vader’s hatred for his former master was at the level it was during A New Hope. The fighting between the pair was spectacular in the new series as well. If there is to be a second season, we will get to see their fractured relationship grow even more dramatically.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently streaming on Disney+. All six episodes showcase a journey that sent Obi-Wan to the breaking point after seeing his friend fall so deeply to the dark side of the force. There are some great surprises but seeing Captain Cody would have been one of the best cameos. Who knows, maybe he can show up at some point in the potential second season. There is a lot of potentials to further expand on the continuity and time frame before A New Hope started. Make it happen, Disney.
