See Norman Reedus Throwing Fists For First Look At Walking Dead Spin-Off
A brief fan-recorded video shows Norman Reedus' character in a fight in his upcoming Walking Dead spinoff.
Since the show went off the air, fans have been clamoring to see more of The Walking Dead. If you’re one of those fans, you’re in luck: the AMC show is getting different spinoffs, including one featuring fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon. A fan recently managed to capture footage of Norman Reedus shooting a scene for the spinoff appropriately titled The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Unfortunately, those looking for any major insights into the spinoff or what Daryl Dixon has been up to will likely be disappointed by this brief footage. All we really see is Norman Reedus briefly fighting someone who exits on the streets of Paris (where this spinoff of The Walking Dead is set) and then checking on the status of a seemingly-injured character on the ground. So far, both the identity of these characters and their roles in the overall plot of the show remain unknown.
What, then, do we already know about Norman Reedus and his return to The Walking Dead? The show begins after Daryl Dixon washes ashore in France with little memory of how he got there. He begins the show with the simple goal of finding his way back to America, but in typical Daryl fashion, he runs into vicious enemies, unexpected allies, and the occasional plot twist that make his simple goal a lot more complex.
Beyond that, Norman Reedus and everyone associated with this spinoff of The Walking Dead have remained fairly tight-lipped about the show, though Reedus has previously claimed that the spinoff amounts to a “fresh start” for this franchise. At the bare minimum, this fresh start is going to involve new locations and characters and feature zombies that are both faster and smarter (these walkers were last seen in the twilight episodes of The Walking Dead). While Reedus didn’t say much beyond teasing a fresh start, it seems implicitly clear that both he and the showrunners of this new spinoff are hoping to create something more dynamic than the original show (which notably began losing fans after the fifth season, with the series going from a height of about 17 million tuning in each week to eventually having only 3.1 million loyal fans tune into the finale).
Some of what Norman Reedus may be up to in this spinoff of The Walking Dead may have already been hinted at in another spinoff titled The Walking Dead: The World Beyond. That show hinted at scheming scientists in Europe that may know more about the virus that continues to animate the dead. Chances are high that Daryl will discover more info about this, just as chances are supremely low that the virus will be cured anytime soon.
Ultimately, this spinoff looks like it was perfectly designed to bring old fans back on board while bringing new fans into the fold (AMC is taking a similar approach with a spinoff focusing on Michonne and Rick). Since Norman Reedus was always a fan-favorite character in The Walking Dead, giving him his own spinoff may lure in viewers who skipped some of the other previous spinoffs featuring brand-new characters even as it lures in new fans with its exotic setting. But since the show has no release date yet and likely won’t drop until sometime in the latter half of 2023, all we can do is speculate about what will happen next in this twisted franchise even as we hope for more fan footage of this mysterious show.
