Nobody 2 Starts Filming Action Sequel Sooner Than Expected

By Jason Collins | Published

Bob Odenkirk’s 2021 Nobody was an unexpected hit, a mixture of Doom Eternal and John Wick, but instead of hunting and killing demons or running away from the High Table of the Hashashin, the movie centered around your seemingly average dad, who’s actually a retired auditor for those covert three-letter agencies—basically a guy nobody wants to see at their front door. We were previously informed about the sequel to Nobody, but it would seem that Nobody 2 might arrive sooner than we thought, with production commencing as early as this summer.

Star Returning To Sleeper Hit Sequel

Nobody 2, the highly anticipated sequel to one of the biggest cinematic hits of 2021, is scheduled to begin filming from August through October this year, bringing us all the adrenaline-fueled action that made the original movie great. For those who liked Bob Odenkirk’s portrayal, we have good news: both Bob Odenkirk and Connie Nielsen are reprising their respective roles. However, other members of the crew aren’t making their comeback—director Ilya Naishuller won’t return to direct the sequel, which means that the studio is still out shopping for a director.

More Announcements Coming Soon

Apart from Better Call Saul star and Connie Nielson confirming the reprisals of their respective roles, Nobody 2 is still in the process of casting, and fans can expect a casting announcement soon. Admittedly, the news about the sequel brings up certain questions pertaining to the movie and its narrative. Will we get new villains connected to the old ones, or is Hutch (the protagonist) going to anger some new people? More importantly, is the movie going to dive deeper into his mysterious past?

Release Date And Production Schedule

These are all the questions we, as the audience and the faithful fans of the original, would like to know. The chances are that we’re going to find out more during production, and with filming scheduled for later this year, we’re likely to receive a full release sometime in 2025—that is, if the cast’s respective schedule permits. One thing is certain: Nobody 2 is going to deliver the same adrenaline-high action and character-driven storytelling, with Bob Odenkirk’s Hutch acting as a matchmaker between the bad guys and the afterlife.

From Saul Goodman To Hutch Mansell

That same recipe made the original movie stand out, as the protagonist’s dormant and violent past resurfaces when his home is burglarized, triggering a chain of gory events that result in a rather strategic and tactical confrontation with a psychopathic Russian crime boss. Along the way and through a trail of bodies, Hutch’s hidden skills begin to resurface, revealing that he’s the auditor, a more hands-on version of Gerard Butler’s Clyde Shelton from Law Abiding Citizen, that government agencies rely on to get a job done. Hopefully, we will see more of that in Nobody 2.

Forging Its Own Action Movie Legacy

This kind of story, though similar to John Wick and The Equalizer, made the original Nobody stand out from the sea of action movies, complemented by plenty of dark humor and brutal close-quarter and hand-to-hand combat. It made $57.9 million, which might not sound like enough, but it’s pretty significant considering the film’s $16 million budget and the fact that it isn’t associated with any big franchise names—which also set the stage for the upcoming Nobody 2.
