Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem were recently in the biopic, Being the Ricardos, which covered the lives of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. The series was a hit on Amazon Prime Video, also leading to both receiving Oscar nominations for their performances. Now, they have reunited for a much different film for AppleTV. This new feature will be an animated musical called Spellbound. Apple Studios is pairing with Skydance Animation to bring this new animated feature to the small screen.

AppleTV has certainly been garnering some huge properties lately. Especially considering that Skydance Animation is a new sector of the long-running Skydance studio, there is a ton to be excited about. Adding Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem to this film will certainly bring in a huge audience. Even more so, because rising star Rachel Zegler, is taking on the lead role as Princess Ellian. The ensemble cast also includes John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, André De Shields, and Jordan Fisher. That is a huge amount of star power for this new animated feature.

Spellbound follows Pricness Ellian, a young royal who must embark on a journey to save her family and the realm, as a spell has turned the king and queen into monsters and will turn the kingdom of Lumia into a dark and desolate land. As you may have guessed by now, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem will play Ellian’s parents. Queen Ellsmere and King Solon. Lithgow will take on the role of Minister Bolinar, and Lewis will portray Minister Nazara Prone, who are both advisors to the princess. Vicky Jensen is set to direct Spellbound, which should excite plenty of people, as she famously directed the first Shrek film. Alan Menken is writing the songs for the film. He famously worked on Disney hits like “Under the Sea,” “Be Our Guest,” and “A Whole New World.”

There is a ton of star power being added to Spellbound, and that comes in way of casting Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem and bringing in such a talented musical and animated crew to work on the film. Skydance Animation might just become a powerhouse like Disney, Illumination, and Dreamworks have been. They do have another film called Luck coming out on AppleTV as well. That film boasts another huge cast that includes Simon Pegg, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jane Fonda. Luck will be out on the streaming platform on August 5th. Spellbound is following shortly after with a November 11th release date.

Nicole Kidman is just coming off a Best Actress nomination and heading straight into appearing in Spellbound. The script for the film must be fantastic enough to land such a prolific actress. The same can be said for Javier Bardem and a great deal more of the cast involved. Considering that the film has a November release date, we might be seeing a trailer in the coming months. We can’t wait to see how this new animated feature looks. We might be seeing a new wave of great animated features that aren’t just related to Pixar.
