Nicole Kidman Is The New Netflix Queen
After a summer rom com with Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman is now starring in The Perfect Couple on Netflix. This only a few years after she starred alongside Meryl Streep in Prom, another Netflix film. Nicole Kidman may just be taking her rightful place as the new Netflix queen.
The Perfect Couple streams on Netflix starting Thursday, September 5.
It really does seem the blonde Aussie is everywhere these days. From Nine Perfect Strangers to Big Little Lies, she’s quite the starlet for limited series. Then we got her as Aquaman’s mom, as Gretchen Carlson in Bombshell, and as a queen in The Northman. It’s no wonder Netflix has snatched her up for films and series.
The Perfect Couple is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Elin Hildebrand.
She’s got a range of acting skills, from the weak and vulnerable to the empowered and even to the sinister villain. It looks like we might be getting another taste of the dark side of Nicole Kidman in The Perfect Couple on Netflix.
The limited series will release all six episodes with a villainous-looking Nicole Kidman on Netflix on September 5. The Perfect Couple has been adapted from the novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand.
The book is actually part three of a series, bringing back several characters from previous novels, but apparently this specific story caught the eye of creator Jenna Laima, who brought us the brilliant series Good Girls. The story centers around a dead body found at the beginning of a wedding weekend on Nantucket, and everyone is a suspect.
This role is a far cry from the downtrodden actress Nicole Kidman played in Prom for Netflix in 2020. There, she is a small figure who can’t catch a break
The trailer gives us plenty of mystery and suspense to look forward to, with flashes of various characters sitting in the interrogation room of a police department, but it is Nicole Kidman’s ability to look like she’s in total control, and happy about it, that has to have made her the Netflix darling she’s quickly becoming.
She plays the matriarch of a wealthy family who is not pleased with her son’s choice of wife. She also happens to be a novelist, making her a perfect suspect for a murder on an island. After all, we writers have wild imaginations and we know how to hide evidence.
This role is a far cry from the downtrodden actress Nicole Kidman played in Prom for Netflix in 2020. There, she is a small figure who can’t catch a break. You might think her role in The Perfect Couple is close to her part in this summer’s A Family Affair, because both characters are novelists.
But as Zac Efron’s love interest, she is a famous, empowered, but also slightly sad and lonely novelist. In The Perfect Couple, she seems bold and fearless.
Nicole Kidman as the new Netflix queen is perfect. Her blue eyes can be appealing and endearing or icy and steely. She’s been honing her acting skills since the 1980s, and she doesn’t show any signs of stopping.
She’s already got two movies listed for release in 2024. Whether we’re falling in love with her, hating to love her, or loving to hate her, Nicole Kidman is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, and now she’s taking over the streaming giant. The Perfect Couple certainly won’t be the last we see of her on Netflix. I say, “hear hear.”
