Nicolas Cage Is Transforming Into The Biggest Pop Culture Icon
Nicolas Cage is channeling Andy Warhol and Max Shreck for his performance as Dracula in Renfield.
Nicolas Cage is a pop culture icon in his own right, but the man is channeling one of the biggest icons in his upcoming performance as Dracula in the movie Renfield. Cage was interviewed by Empire about his upcoming portrayal of the most popular vampire in Renfield. According to the auteur actor, “When I got a sense of where McKay wanted to go, I realized the movie has a comedic, pop art attitude.”
Cage added, “So I thought: ‘This will be a pop-art Dracula.’ Warhol did a great black-on-black Dracula. This is in that Warhol vein.” We are not sure what that means for the character, but from the images that have already been posted online, Nicolas Cage is going to be quite a bizarre version of Dracula in Renfield.
Nicolas Cage becoming a different version of Dracula in Renfield is certainly not a terrible idea either. We have seen all manner of actors take on the role of Dracula, and all have been somewhat similar in their delivery. Cage is going to go a bit outside of the box in his portrayal, which is quite on par with the odd movies he has been starring in these past five years or so.
Renfeld is also being put together by Chris McKay, who famously directed movies like The Tomorrow War and The Lego Batman Movie. While those are certainly nothing like what we might see in the new vampire movie, we can expect some wild laughs when Nicolas Cage comes waltzing out in his maroon suit and white face in Renfield. Cage is going to be joined by Nicholas Hoult in the movie, who has also revealed how “fantastic” Cage’s performance is.
According to Nicolas Hoult, “Being in the same room as Nic Cage whilst he’s dressed as Dracula and tormenting you as Dracula and you’re his servant is really some of the most fun I’ve ever had onscreen whilst being tortured.” Again, we are not entirely sure what Nicolas Cage is going to be like in Renfield, but we can imagine that this role is going to be quite an amazing one. Cage has been going through a bit of a renaissance, and this new vampire movie might be a ticket back to being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
Nicolas Cage starring in Renfield is only his second big-budget movie in many years, as was recently in Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where he portrayed a highly fictionalized version of himself. Quite honestly, the movie was a laugh riot, and we are hoping that Renfield is going to be more of the same. Before he was an action movie icon, Cage did some of his best work in the genre of comedy, and we are more than happy that he is finally back.
It sounds as if Nicolas Cage is going for a more fictionalized and over-the-top version of Dracula in Renfield, as he has made those comparisons to Andy Warhol and the pop-art style. Also, Cage stated that he also tried to emulate the mannerisms used by Max Shreck, who was the original actor in Nosferatu.
Nicolas Cage stars in Renfield, which is set for April 14, 2023, release date. We cannot wait to see more developments about this comedy movie and see a trailer that showcases the kind of Dracula that Cage is going to be portraying.
