Nicolas Cage Turns Down The Mandalorian Because He Loves Star Trek Too Much
Nicolas Cage turned down an offer to join Disney's The Mandalorian because he is too loyal to Star Trek.
Since the two stars appeared together in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, which aired just last year, Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal have had a budding friendship. However, when offered to join The Mandalorian, Nicolas Cage turned down the offer, stating he was too loyal to the Star Trek franchise to join in on a Star Wars project. Yahoo Entertainment broke the news to Pedro Pascal, who responded with admiration for the Leaving Las Vegas actor and his intellectual loyalty to the franchise.
Pedro Pascal goes on to explain how Star Trek always struck him as a more mature franchise. He explains how it went over his head as a child and notes how Nicolas Cage’s love for Star Trek makes him “just sort of smarter than us.” While fans would have loved to see the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse actor taking on a role in The Mandalorian, it is unlikely to happen.
Many of us understand his loyalty to a given franchise and have our own that we stick to. And while some of us can enjoy both, for Nicolas Cage, the age-old debate of Star Wars versus Star Trek is an easy one. He explained that he would not be interested in taking on a role in the series, going on to note that “I’m not in the Star Wars family. I’m in the Star Trek family.”
Unfortunately for fans of both franchises and Pedro Pascal, Nicolas Cage will not be seen in any Star Wars–themed movies or TV shows, even if Pascal’s initial offer got some viewers excited. Pedro Pascal has been open about the series and his desire to recruit Nicolas Cage in the past. The two have an undeniable chemistry that would translate to the show wonderfully.
Unfortunately for avid Nicolas Cage fans, his love of Star Trek will prevent him from taking on a role in the hit series The Mandalorian. However, he still has a number of upcoming works that fans can look forward to in the coming months.
Set to release this April is the horror-comedy Renfield. Fans can watch Nicolas Cage taking on the role of the notorious vampire Dracula in a performance that is sure to be masterful and compelling. Other Cage films in post-production are Sympathy for the Devil, Dream Scenario, Arcada, and Longlegs. The completed film The Retirement Plan, starring Nicolas Cage, is set to release sometime later this year with no date solidified just yet.
Nicolas Cage has a long-running career filled with successes, and both a Star Wars or Star Trek project would fit seamlessly into the star’s lineup. However, he recently stated that one genre he has yet to be able to explore is a musical. The actor recently noted that he would like to take on a musical in his career, possibly Jesus Christ Superstar.
While many fans don’t understand why Niclas Cage wouldn’t take a role in The Mandalorian over his affinity to Star Trek, they can still look forward to the upcoming installment, albeit without Cage involved. With The Mandalorian Season 3 airing on Disney+ earlier this month, fans can already expect a fourth season on the horizon.
