Nicolas Cage Is Returning In Lords Of War Sequel
Nicolas Cage will star with Bill Skarsgard in a sequel to his movie Lord of War.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgard will be co-starring in the Lord of War sequel Lords of War. Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, The Truman Show) is also returning to write and direct after helming the 2005 original. Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi, who produced the original, will return to produce under their Vencome Pictures banner.
Nicolas Cage will also be producing Lords of War with his Saturn Films banner, and Skarsgard is on board as an executive producer. Cage will reprise his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov. In the sequel, Orlov finds out that he has a son named Anton (Skarsgard), who plans to launch a mercenary army to combat American interest in Middle Eastern conflicts.
Filming for the Nicolas Cage-starring Lords of War is set to begin in fall 2023, but there’s no word on when we can expect a release date. Fans of the original will no doubt remember that Lord of War is amongst one of Cage’s best efforts in the early aughts, so this is definitely good news for fans of the actor. It remains to be seen if any other members of the cast and creative team are returning for the sequel.
Those who haven’t seen Nicolas Cage in Lord of War should definitely check it out before Lords of War comes out. The film follows an arms dealer who questions the morality of what he does as he is chased down by an INTERPOL agent. Along with Cage, the original film starred Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto, Bridget Moynahan, Eamonn Walker, Sammi Rotibi, Eugene Lazarev, and Ian Holm.
Nicolas Cage received praise for his performance in Lord of War, and it did fairly well at the box office, drawing in $72.6 million globally. The film was generally well-received by both critics and audiences. With Cage’s recent renaissance of quality roles, it’s possible that Lords of War could be even more successful and critically acclaimed.
While we wait to see Nicolas Cage return as Yuri in Lords of War, the actor has quite a few other projects to look forward to. Most recently, Cage starred as Dracula in the horror comedy Renfield, which co-stars Nicholas Hoult in the titular role as his long-suffering henchman. The Chris McKay-directed film also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Snoreh Aghdashloo, and Brandon Scott Jones.
Nicolas Cage’s Lords of War may not have a release date yet, but he is gracing us with two more performances before 2023 is over with Sympathy for the Devil and The Retirement Plan. Sympathy for the Devil follows a passenger (Cage) holding a driver (Joel Kinnaman) at gunpoint, leading to a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. Yuval Adler directs the film, which is scheduled for a July 28 release date.
The Retirement Plan follows Ashley (Ashley Greene) and her daughter Sarah (Thalia Campbell) who turn to Ashley’s stranger father Matt (Nicolas Cage) when they get caught up in a dangerous criminal enterprise. Jackie Earle Haley, Ron Perlman, and Ernie Hudson also star. There’s no official release date yet, but we’ll keep you updated on this, Lords of War, and Cage’s other upcoming projects.
