Nicolas Cage Horror Thriller Driving People Mad With Mysterious Teases
The marketing for the upcoming Nicolas Cage movie Longlegs is making its way around the internet, and people are rightfully losing their minds.
That’s because in 2023, Nicolas Cage could do no wrong, and he’s currently in the middle of a hot streak that doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon.
The trailer, which Neon released on January 19, 2024, is incredibly cryptic and doesn’t tell us much, aside from the fact that Longlegs will crawl under our collective skin in the best possible way. Check it out.
Aside from the unhinged manic moaning that’s undeniably Nicolas Cage channeling his inner psychopath, the Longlegs teaser is tense with an unsettling musical backdrop. And for as little as the 24-second trailer reveals about the movie’s plot, it tells everything we need to know.
The first 14 seconds of the trailer has us looking into a living room in which a priest is talking to an unidentified man. Things go south rather quickly when the man gets ready to assault the priest with an axe before the scene cuts to a detective in her office looking at a series of symbols and notes from what we could only gather belong to the serial killer.
While we don’t see Nicolas Cage’s face in frame, we hear his menacing laughter, but never see an official Longlegs title card upon the trailer’s conclusion.

Given the movie’s synopsis as we currently understand it, we’re absolutely watching the trailer for Nicolas Cage’s Longlegs. Since the story is about a female FBI agent named Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) and an implied serial killer mystery, the marketing is in line with everything we know about the movie.
It’s worth noting, however, that we’ll probably have to wait for a full trailer to be released to confirm our current assumptions.
Aside from the fact that Nicolas Cage is playing a yet-to-be-named serial killer in Longlegs, we’re left guessing what kind of horrors we’ll be subjected to upon its release.
Director Oz Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter) has the ability to fold multiple disturbing narratives into one cohesive story.
But if we had to venture a guess based on writer and director Oz Perkins’ past work in the horror and thriller genres alone, Longlegs won’t be for the faint of heart. If you’ve had the pleasure of watching The Blackcoat’s Daughter, then you’re already familiar with Perkins’ uncanny ability to fold multiple disturbing narratives into one cohesive story.
And since we’re dealing with a classic cat-and-mouse serial killer plot, we can’t help but wonder if Nicolas Cage’s portrayal of what seems to be a Zodiac Killer kind of antagonist will mirror John Cusack’s performance in 2013’s The Frozen Ground.
While The Frozen Ground saw Nicolas Cage’s Jack Halcombe on the side of good as he tirelessly searched or John Cusack’s brutally sadistic Robert Hansen, we’ll potentially be witnessing a role reversal of sorts in Longlegs.
Given Cage’s range and his recent psychological horror-adjacent roles in films like Dream Scenario and Sympathy for the Devil, it’s safe to say that he has had plenty of experience leading up to this role.
As of this writing, there is no set release date for Longlegs. We’ll follow up with more details and hopefully a more revealing trailer as soon as we have access to it.
