The New Sci-Fi Horror Film Stephen King Calls Truly Unique
As one of the most prolific horror authors of all time, you have to imagine that Stephen King has pretty good taste in horror movies (despite hating Kubrick’s brilliant adaptation of his book The Shining). Fortunately, King regularly takes to Twitter to recommend some horror movies that he finds exciting, and his latest recommendation is the film No One Will Save You. If you want to take his advice and check out the film for yourself, it’s currently streaming on Hulu.
Kaitlyn Dever owns the screen as one of the only characters in the film, and her great performance anchors the sci-fi as she battles both aliens and the traumas of her past.
No One Will Save You is a psychological sci-fi thriller that follows a young woman isolated from the rest of her community who has to face off with extraterrestrial beings. Amazingly, the film will keep you on the edge of your seat despite only having two lines of dialogue during its entire 93-minute run-time.
If you haven’t heard about this film yet, you shouldn’t be too surprised since it just came out on September 19 and was put on the streaming services on September 22, so it hasn’t been out for very long at all.
No One Will Save You stars Kaitlyn Dever, best known for her roles in Booksmart and Justified. Dever owns the screen as one of the only characters in the film, and her great performance anchors the sci-fi as she battles both aliens and the traumas of her past. Dever was already on a hot streak with Booksmart, and this film should help to further launch her career as a young star to watch.
No One Will Save You is the second directorial effort from Brian Duffield, who previously directed the 2020 film Spontaneous. Duffield also wrote the screenplay and produced the film alongside Tim White, Trevor White, and Allan Mandelbaum. Duffield’s previous screenwriting credits include The Babysitter, Love and Monsters, and the Netflix animated TV series Skull Island, which also came out this year.
So far, No One Will Save You has been getting pretty great reviews, even outside of the co-sign by Stephen King. King compared it to a great episode of The Twilight Zone, so if you’re a fan of that series or a fan of that episode in particular, you’ll probably enjoy this movie. Although the movie is billed as a sci-fi thriller, many of the reviews have said that it’s plenty scary, so it should be the perfect Halloween season watch for horror fans.
No One Will Save You will keep you on the edge of your seat despite only having two lines of dialogue during its entire 93-minute run-time.
It’ll be interesting to see if No One Will Save You ends up turning a profit since it was only briefly available in limited theaters. However, it seems like the streaming release was more the focus for this one, and the movie was made on a pretty low budget of around $22 million, so the goodwill from reviews and co-signs from horror giants like Stephen King should definitely help to bump those streaming numbers up.
The Best Horror Movie Of 2023?
Outlets like Forbes have even gone so far as to call it the best horror movie of 2023, which is high praise, considering the year is almost over, and there have been some pretty solid horror offerings throughout the year.
Still, it’s not hard to believe that No One Will Save You could end up being the best horror of the year, with glowing reviews from other outlets and Stephen King indicating that it’s well worth your time. Reviews have also said that the visual storytelling and the engaging action of the film are so strong that you hardly notice that there are only two lines of dialogue in the entire film.
A Quiet Place was another horror film that notably lacked dialogue for large chunks of its runtime, and that film became a massive hit — maybe No One Will Save You is on the same path.
It would be easy to see No One Will Save You becoming another massive horror streaming win for Hulu. In 2022, the streamer got the surprise win of the fantastic Prey film, which featured Amber Midthunder as a Comanche warrior taking on a Predator. Maybe Hulu should green-light sci-fi horror films more often.
Now is the perfect time of year for new horror movies, and it sounds like this one is well worth the watch. You can check it out No One Will Save You now on Hulu. Stay tuned for more horror news and films to stream.
