New Classic Cartoon And Anime Channel Launching This Summer

By Christopher Isaac | Published

TV network MeTV was already known in part for its cartoon block that offered one of the few channels to watch classic animated shorts featuring Bugs Bunny and Yogi Bear. The network now believes that there is such a demand for this kind of content that they are creating an entirely new network exclusively for classic cartoons. Coming this June, MeTV Toons will become the new home to watch all of the iconic animated characters that people know so well.

Classic Cartoon Experience

One of the big selling points of MeTV Toons is that, unlike other networks that might also air some classic cartoons, MeTV Toons will not share that airspace with more modern shows as well.

This new network will be devoted exclusively to the classics and will show them 24/7. For viewers looking for a nostalgia fix, or to discover some of the classics for the first time, MeTV Toons sounds like it will become one of the easiest ways to do so.

Content Lineup

MeTV Toons will be a collaboration between Weigel Broadcasting Co. as well as Warner Bros. Discovery. This means the primary content on the channel will stem from the likes of the Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Tom & Jerry, Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Popeye, and other characters who Warner Bros. owns the rights to.

However, the network will also feature guest content from other studios, such as Rocky and Bullwinkle, Casper, Speed Racer, and Woody Woodpecker. The cartoons featured will be from the pre-2000s era of animation.

Vision Of MeTV Toons

Speaking on the debut of the new network, Weigel vice chairman Neal Sabin said, “We are honored to work with the amazing team at Warner Bros. Discovery and others on this network and bring together a truly incredible collection of the world’s best known and most loved classic cartoons, creating a new destination for everyone to discover or rediscover the sheer joy of watching cartoons on TV.”

Specifically addressing what will make MeTV Toons special, Sabin said, “MeTV Toons will be dedicated 24/7 to showcasing the biggest names and most beloved classic cartoons and animated characters. Everyone has a favorite cartoon; it is a universally loved art form. We are thrilled to bring those smiles and memories back to TV with MeTV Toons.”

Unique Features

As more and more consumers turn to the past and what they enjoyed from their childhoods, MeTV Toons should be a crowd pleaser that is also easy to maintain due to not much need to add original content.

However, that is not to say that the network will not be doing anything to put a few new touches on things. Bob Bergen, known for being the voice of characters like Porky Pig and Marvin the Martian, will be the announcer for the network, lending updates with a familiar voice.

Accessibility And Convenience

As far as availability, MeTV Toons will of course be able to be accessed via traditional broadcast television, but also virtually and through ad-supported streaming platforms.

So fans will be able to enjoy the cartoons of the older eras through the modern convenience of current day services. Sabin mentioned in his statement that he wants this network to be something that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and generations so that everyone can see their favorite characters again.

Extensive Cartoon Library

It sounds as if the library of cartoons that will be at MeTV Toons’ disposal will already be quite substantial at the network’s launch. While it is not clear exactly how many shows they have access to, those listed are already some of the most popular cartoons of the past.

And presumably the network will also have the capability to add additional shows to their lineup over time. It sounds like the new network will truly be a renaissance for classic animation.
