The NeverEnding Story Gets Fantastic Upgrade Every Fan Will Want
A limited edition set, created by the Australian label Imprint Films, is being released in honor of the 40th anniversary of the beloved movie The NeverEnding Story and will finally be presented in the best format possible, with a 4k UHD Blu-ray. The five-disc collection has fans counting down the days until its release.
The set is packed within a replica of The NeverEnding Story’s Storybook, which features the Auryn emblem, die-cast metallic ornamentation, red and white ribbons, gold-foiled stamping, and further embossed detailing. According to Imprint Films, you’ll barely be able to tell the difference between the limited edition packaging and the actual prop featured in the film.
40 Years Of The NeverEnding Story
The 40th-anniversary release of The NeverEnding Story 4K UHD box set will also include some other special details besides the Storybook and movie. Fans who purchase the set will also receive a reproduction of the original 1984 press kit as well as a matte laminated print of the original poster design and reprints of eight lobby cards. For those younger than 25 a lobby card was a small promotional poster that was usually displayed somewhere in a movie theater’s entrance and consisted of one title card paired with seven scene cards.
A Timeless Classic
Debuting in 1984, The NeverEnding Story was immediately a hit and grossed over $100 million worldwide at the box office. To this day, the film has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84 percent, and the dreamlike narrative and set design still captivate audiences today. In short, this movie, though produced in Germany, is regarded as an American treasure.
4k UHD Trauma
As previously mentioned, this collector’s item contains five different discs, and each one has something for fans to look forward to. Disc One contains The NeverEnding Story’s original US theatrical cut on 4k UHD and includes audio commentary by the director and also by author Paul M. Sammon. Disc Two also contains the US theatrical cut, this time on Blu-ray, and contains featurettes on how they adapted the book, details on the beloved special effects, and explanations of the music score.
Disc Three and Disc Four feature the German extended cut on 4k UHD and Blu-ray. The special addition to the set that fans might enjoy most is Disc Five. Featuring a recently created full-length documentary titled Life After NeverEnding Story, it includes 70 minutes of extended footage and deleted scenes, as well as the film’s original trailer.
