Netflix is releasing the fourth installment of You a little sooner than expected. The upcoming season of the popular psychological thriller will be available on the platform in two batches in 2023. Part one will premiere on February 9th, with part two debuting a month later on March 9th. A new promotional poster was also revealed along with the announcement.
Based on Caroline Kepnes’s novel series of the same name, the Netflix series follows Joe Goldberg – a toxic, delusional stalker who becomes obsessed with every girl he falls in love with. The project is adapted for Netflix by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti, with the former serving as You showrunner. The show is produced by Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
Netflix released the first mini trailer for the new season of You on September 24th. The clip sees Joe Goldberg shed his previous personas – the lovable bookstore manager in New York, the shop clerk in LA, and the doting suburban husband. For the new installment, he has gone through a bit of refinement to become Professor Jonathan Moore. Narrating the clip, Joe explains that living in London has helped him bury the past.
So his days of unrequited love and longing are gone. Instead, he wants to focus on academia and keep his extracurricular activities strictly professional. But he says having friends in high places comes with a price as others who want to climb the social ladder are never too far behind. Some may end up falling or being pushed to their social death. However, the real question is, by whom? The first three seasons of Netflix’s You are currently available to stream.
Speaking about the hit Netflix series, You star Penn Badgley told the PodCrushed podcast that if he ever met Joe Goldberg he would try to love him. “Let’s say he was a person I was obsessed with, and somehow I could meet him in a controlled circumstance, and he was interested in listening to me. I would actually try to love him,” the actor said. He elaborated, saying Joe has never really been loved. “He needs love. It’s like, I would hug him. I would hold him,” the actor continued.
British actress Charlotte Ritchie, best known for her role as Alison on BBC’s Ghosts, will be joining the Netflix family for You season four. In an interview with the Radio Times, the 33-year-old described her role as challenging and exciting. “I haven’t found something as challenging for a really long time,” she told the publication. She also explained how her character has an “icy” element.
Filming for the fourth installment of Netflix’s You began in March and concluded in August. Along with Penn Badgley returning as Joe Goldberg, Tati Gabrielle reprises her role as Marienne Bellamy. Lukas Gage, Charlotte Ritchie, Tilly Keeper, Amy-Leigh Hickman, and Ed Speleers also join the main cast as Adam, Kate, Lady Phoebe, Nadia, and Rhys respectively.
