Disappearance at Clifton Hill was quietly released in 2019, only doing about $25,000 at the box office. This is to be expected, as the film had a limited digital and theatrical release. Though the film didn’t do big numbers, it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and found some acclaim in the Canadian award circuit, nabbing several nominations. The movie is definitely finding its second life on streaming. With it hitting number one, more eyes are probably seeing it than ever. It has a pretty good rating on Rotten Tomatoes too, with a 74% from critics. There aren’t enough ratings from audiences for an aggregate score yet, but that’ll likely change as more people catch it on Netflix. The movie is directed by Albert Shin, who also co-wrote the screenplay with James Schultz. The movie stars Tuppence Middleton, Hannah Gross, Marie-Josee Croze, Eric Johnson, David Cronenburg, Andy McQueen, Noah Reid, Dan Lett, Aaron Poole, and more. An interesting tidbit about the movie is that Albert Shin based the plot on something that happened to him in real life when he witnessed what appeared to be a kidnapping.

One reason that critics enjoyed the movie was because of Tuppence Middleton’s performance as Abby. She anchors the film throughout. Middleton’s most recent performance is in Downton Abbey: A New Era. This film is the follow-up to the 2019 Downton Abbey film that Middleton also featured in. The movies are based on the popular series and the most recent film sees the Crawley family and the Downton staff hosting a visit from the King and Queen of Great Britain. The cast includes Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Allen Leech, and more. Simon Curtis directs with a script from Julian Fellowes. Downton Abbey: A New Era is actually in theaters right now, so you could catch a double-showing of Tuppence Middleton projects this weekend.

Tuppence Middleton has some more exciting projects on the horizon, with Magpie and Lord of Misrule. Lord of Misrule tells the story of a desperate search for a town minister’s young daughter. Along with Middleton, the movie stars Ralph Ineson, Anton Valensi, Matt Stokoe, Robert Goodman, and more. William Brent Belle directs with a script from Tom de Ville. This one is in post-production and there’s no word on a release date yet.

Magpie will be a horror film for Tuppence Middleton. Magpie tells the story of a girl who lives in an isolated church community ruled by The Pastor. After someone’s murder, the community starts to spread rumors about a Beast living in the forest. In addition to Middleton, the movie stars Buket Komar, Max Harwood, and Thomas Turgoose. Dean Puckett writes and directs. Magpie is currently in the pre-production stages, with no word on a release date.

If you want to check out Tuppence Middleton’s performance in Disappearance at Clifton Hill, now is a great time to do so. With the popularity it’s enjoying on the Netflix charts, there is sure to be plenty of talk surrounding the mystery thriller. The film is currently streaming on Netflix. It also managed to beat out Top Gun for the #1 spot on the streaming platform, which is surprising due to the smash success of the sequel. It wouldn’t be surprising if Disappearance at Clifton Hill wasn’t able to hold on to the top spot too much longer.
