Netflix Top Movie Is An R-rated Over-The-Top Blockbuster
By now, just about everyone is aware of the hit action franchise Bad Boys starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Though the franchise has now spanned four installments dating back a quarter of a century, the series shows no signs of slowing or stopping in terms of popularity, as the most recent installment Bad Boys: Ride or Die is currently #2 on the Netflix streaming charts. The film, which initially premiered last June, has been widely hailed as the best Bad Boys outing thus far, and offers tons of laughs, lots of heart, and enough high-octane action to raise your core temperature for the whole 2 hour run-time.
Bad Boys: Ride Or Die
For those who have not yet seen the film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die picks up right where the third installment leaves off, with detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett patrolling the mean streets of Miami, Florida.
In the opening sequence of the film, Mike and Marcus are speeding down the road to get to Mike’s wedding reception when Marcus suffers a mild heart attack, prompting a near-death experience. Before waking from his coma, Marcus has a vision of his former Captain, Conrad Howard, who explains that he still has things left to do before his final days.
Taking Down The Cartel
Marcus takes this as a serious wake-up call, and even begins to chase high adrenaline with extreme behaviors because he thinks he is conditionally immortal. Meanwhile, Mike is questioned by internal affairs staff at the precinct after a news report reveals Captain Howard was tied to a major corruption scandal involving the local drug cartel.
As Bad Boys: Ride or Die kicks into high gear, Mike and Marcus set out to take down the cartels, expose the dirty cops in their precinct, and clear their Captain’s name posthumously, since they know that he would never betray the force.
Exactly What You’d Expect From A Bad Boys Film
As you can guess, the remainder of the film involves a great deal of police chases, shootouts, interrogations, and every other major element to a proper Bad Boys outing. One particular scene went viral online just before Bad Boys: Ride or Die premiered in theaters, as the behind-the-scenes footage showcased Will Smith handling a first-person camera to achieve a truly intense and partially motion sickness-inducing sequence.
Since the film was released, the opening scene has also gone viral via TikTok and YouTube shorts, as it expertly portrays the comedic chemistry the two leading actors bring to the screen.
Saved The Franchise
Personally, I’ve always felt that the Bad Boys franchise was a little hit-or-miss, with some installments failing to have an appropriate amount of fun. Bad Boys: Ride or Die does not have that problem, as the outing prioritizes over-the-top action, comedy set-pieces, and moving chemistry at every turn.
Though professional critics gave the film mixed reviews, resulting in a middling 65 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, Bad Boys: Ride or Die has become a massive hit with general audiences, as indicated by its near-perfect 97 percent score on the Popcornmeter.
