Netflix Thriller Hits Top Of The Charts
If you’ve been keeping up with the latest Netflix outings, you’re no doubt familiar with the new Jessica Alba movie Trigger Warning, which is currently topping the charts on the streamer with millions of hours of collective watch time. According to Netflix’s most recent rankings, the film leads over a number of other popular projects across the streaming field including Hulu’s Prey, Max’s Ride Along 2, and Peacock’s Kung Fu Panda 4.

Trigger Warning was written by the screenwriting trio of John Brancato, Josh Olson, and Halley Wegryn Gross. While the three writers have yet to work together on a feature film until this point, they have amassed a wide array of collective writing credits on IMDb, including Terminator Salvation, A History of Violence, and even the hit Naughty Dog video game The Last of Us Part 2. After writing the movie on spec back in 2016, the film was purchased by Thunder Road Films before eventually becoming acquired by Netflix in 2020.
John Wick Meets Rambo
Back when it was first pitched, Trigger Warning was envisioned as a cross between John Wick and the Rambo franchise, designed to be an action thriller with a powerful female lead. Jessica Alba was obviously a no-brainer to take on the main role, as she recently appeared in such thrilling projects as Mechanic: Resurrection, Killers Anonymous, and L.A.’s Finest.
Other performers who round out the cast of the recently-released Netflix thrill-ride include Mark Webber, Alejandro De Hoyos, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, Gabriel Basso, and The Dark Knight‘s Anthony Michael Hall.
A Mysterious Death Generates Tension
The narrative of Trigger Warning centers around Jessica Alba’s Parker, a highly-skilled military investigator, with a keen eye for illegal arms trades. After Parker’s father Harry accidentally uncovers a criminal cabal of weapons dealers known as the Swann Family, he is killed, with his death reported as a mysterious accident. Needless to say, Parker is not convinced, and she makes her way across the world to investigate her father’s untimely demise further.
Public Enemy Number One
As Parker digs deeper into her dad’s disappearance, she becomes public enemy number one for the gang of dangerous mercenaries, leading her to punch, kick, shoot, and stab her way out of there by any means necessary.
While Trigger Warning is a clear crowd-pleaser, as evidenced by its top-ranking position on the Netflix platform, the film received mostly negative reviews from professional critics. The movie currently holds a paltry 20 percent rotten score on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, even as it continues to be watched by millions of Netflix subscribers.
