The Best Netflix Thriller Ever Gets Stunning Collector’s Edition Release
Some thrillers are so good that they make you want to scream for joy, while others are so gripping that you can sometimes find yourself holding your breath as the protagonist desperately attempts to quietly make their escape from a ruthless villain hot on their heels. When Hush premiered on Netflix in 2016, it quickly became apparent that the film wasn’t your run-of-the-mill thriller but one of the best that the streaming giant has ever had in its library, so it was a crushing blow when the movie disappeared completely from Netflix in 2023. But in a thrilling surprise, a special Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray of Hush will be hitting stores on November 26, and by all accounts, it is so stunning that it will be difficult to keep quiet.
The Collector’s Edition You Don’t Want To Miss
Just in time for the holiday season, Hush will see both a standard Blu-ray and a Collector’s Edition 4K Blu-ray release, marking the first time that the film has seen a physical release, but it appears to be well worth the wait. Inside the Collector’s Edition of Hush (starting at $35.99), fans will receive an absolute haul that includes multiple versions of the former Netflix standout. Besides the 4K release of the film, there will also be an exclusive “Shush” cut, which is presented in black and white.
Supervised and approved by Mike Flanagan, the “Shush” cut also features a brand new audio mix of the film, which promises to heighten the tension of the original film by removing most of the film’s score. With minimal sound and a monochromatic aesthetic, the “Shush” cut closely resembles a concept that Flanagan explored early in the production of Hush before abandoning the idea.
Interviews With Cast And Crew
In addition to the added “Shush” cut, the four-disc Collector’s Edition of Hush will also feature an optional picture-in-picture commentary about the Netflix film with Mike Flanagan, Kate Siegel, Samantha Sloyan, John Gallagher Jr., and Michael Trucco. Fans will also be able to watch exclusive interviews with the cast and crew, as well as an interview with Flanagan.
Finally, the variants of the release (starting at $39.98) will include a collection of artwork and a reversible wrap with a black-and-white version of the new artwork inside a slipcase not available with the Blu-ray release.
A Modern Mike Flanagan Classic
Over the last decade, Mike Flanagan has cemented himself as one of the top filmmakers in the thriller and horror genres. His critically-acclaimed horror series The Haunting of Hill House, a re-imagining of the classic Shirley Jackson novel, is often regarded as one of the best series that Netflix has ever produced, boasting a 93% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. But it was his film Hush that helped put Flanagan on the map and set him up with a future with Netflix.
A Tried-And-True Premise Masterfully Executed
Hush, the Netflix original, follows Maddie Young (Kate Siegel), a deaf and mute author who has retreated to her isolated home in the woods following the release of her latest novel. As Maddie settles inside her home and gets her comfortable, her friend and nearest neighbor is killed by a masked maniac (John Gallagher Jr.) outside Maddie’s home, unbeknownst to Maddie.
Do You Have What It Takes To Get Through Hush?
After the masked killer spots Maddie inside of her home, he decides to make her his next target, and sneaks his way inside of her home. What follows is a dangerous game of cat and mouse that forces Maddie to fight for her life or become the masked killer’s next victim. With non-stop thrills and a unique premise, it’s easy to see how Hush became one of Netflix’s top-performing thrillers.
