The official Stranger Things YouTube channel uploaded a short behind-the-scenes trailer earlier this morning. Featuring interview snippets with lead cast members, SFX closeups, and commentary from the directing Duffer brothers, the building excitement from fans is almost bubbling over for season 5.

“I started when I was ten, I’m now turning 20 years old…It feels very weird.”

-Millie Bobby Brown, speaking of her time on Stranger Things

One of the most important pieces of information we gained from the video is that season 5 of Stranger Things is halfway through filming. Also, the original four, Mike, Dustin, Will, and Lucas will have more screen time than the previous sequel seasons, something fans have been begging for since season one.

In the interview snippets we received from cast members, there was a lot of reflection on how long they have been working on the production. With season five being the final installment of the Stranger Things franchise, it’s no wonder nostalgia is on their minds.

Millie Bobby Brown stated, “I started when I was ten, I’m now turning 20 years old…It feels very weird.”

Sadie Sink, who portrays the character Max Mayfield, stated, “We’re just kind of savoring every single moment.”

Filming on Stranger Things Season 5 is scheduled to be wrapped by Christmas.

Season four of Stranger Things was released in May of 2022, and many questions about the fate of Hawkins and its residents have circulated. The largest and most obvious being “Will they be able to separate the upside-down reality from their own? ?” quickly followed by “Will Max ever wake up?”

No hints about either speculation have been given out by the production team. However, since Sadie Sink is featured in the trailer we can at least confirm that Max will play some sort of role in season five of Stranger Things.

Matt and Ross Duffer, informally known as the Duffer Brothers, are the creators and primary directors of the Stranger Things series.

Prior to the release of season four, they released a letter to fans explaining that  “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things… At the time, we predicted the story would last four or five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you’ll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”

Season four of Stranger Things was allotted a budget of nearly $270 million and roped in 1.35 billion hours of viewing by its 28th day of being on Netflix. In the behind-the-scenes video that was uploaded today the Duffer brothers stated that while season four was big, season five of Stranger Things will be even bigger.

Stranger Things Season 5 is expected to stream on Netflix in 2025.

Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas in the show, chimed in a little later saying, “This is the season the fans have been waiting for.”

Season five of Stranger Things is estimated to be done filming by Christmas of this year. As far as when it will be released on Netflix, the Duffer brothers announced it will be on our screens sometime in 2025, however, an exact date is yet to be announced.

Though fans anxiously wait for its arrival there is a touch of melancholy in the air. Many viewers grew up with this show and its cast members, for lots of fans, season five will be a hard goodbye. We find solace in the fact that we’ll always (hopefully) be able to revisit the strange things residing in Hawkins.
