Netflix Gives Season 2 To Dark Comedy Crime Series From Fan-Favorite Director

By Douglas Helm | Published

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen is coming back for Season 2. The Netflix series debuted earlier this year to great reviews and apparently got plenty of people watching, so we’re in for more drug empire-related shenanigans. Ritchie is also returning as director and co-writer.

A Second Serving Of The Gentlemen

The Gentlemen Season 2 announcement doesn’t come with any details about what we can expect plot-wise, but the first season introduced us to Theo James’ Eddie Horniman and Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass. Eddie finds himself caught up in a cannabis empire being run by Glass and her father when he inherits his father’s estate. While Eddie is initially eager to get his family out of the criminal business, he soon finds that he might be more suited for the business than he initially thought.

Along with Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, the first season of the series starred Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Chanel Cresswell, Vinnie Jones, Giancarlo Esposito, and Ray Winstone. Ings is confirmed to be reprising his role in The Gentlemen Season 2 so far, but further cast details have yet to be announced. We do know that filming is set to start next year, which means a release date hopefully won’t be too far in the future.

A Successful Spin-Off

The Gentlemen is a spin-off of Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen, which included a star-studded cast of Charlie Hunnam, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, and Jeremy Strong. While none of those characters appeared in the series, there’s always a chance The Gentlemen Season 2 could bring on a big guest star. But, even if it doesn’t, the show has been more well-received than the movie.

The Best Of Guy Ritchie

The Gentlemen TV series is an encapsulation of everything Guy Ritchie does well, with snappy action and dialogue, intriguing characters, and a well-placed plot. We’ll have to see if Ritchie can keep the good times going in The Gentlemen Season 2. In the meantime, Ritchie also has a new film around the corner titled In the Grey that stars Henry Cavill, Eiza Gonzalez, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Rosamund Pike.

Ritchie’s Recent Films Have Underperformed

While Ritchie’s recent films The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Guy Ritchie’s the Covenant, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre have failed to make much of an impact at the box office or critically, The Gentlemen has been one of his biggest hits in recent memory. Many fans have favorably compared it to some of his best works like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. If The Gentleman Season 2 is as good as the first season, we could see Netflix get a new action franchise on its hands.

Coming To Netflix

While we wait for The Gentlemen Season 2 to come out, you can catch Guy Ritchie’s next project, In the Grey, at the start of the new year when it hits theaters on January 17, 2025. Ritchie will also be making another TV series for a different streamer with Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Young Sherlock show. Ritchie is set to direct the series based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novels with Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the lead role.
