Netflix Sci-Fi Fantasy Series Unlike Anything You’ve Seen Before, Season 2 Actually Happening?
Netflix just killed a bunch of Season 2 renewals, including several K-dramas and many other works. However, it also continues its work on several other series, including Scavengers Reign, which the streamer actually picked up from its competition Max after the latter decided to pull the plug on the series. What makes this whole bit of information interesting is the fact that fans are now watching the show on Netflix and also calling others to watch it in hopes that the increased viewership will prompt Netflix to renew the series for Season 2.
Possibility Of A Season 2
This is a rather interesting turn of events, especially in the modern setting, because the streamers churn out content faster than we can watch it, and many things simply get canceled if the ratings aren’t what the streamers have envisioned.
Scavengers Reign was previously canceled on MAX on May 10 before appearing on Netflix, with the streamer reportedly considering a Season 2 for the animated show. However, the decision likely won’t be made until after Season 1’s debut on the world’s largest streaming service, which is why the fans are calling on others to watch the show.
The Show
What’s going on right now is that Netflix is basically conducting an experiment to gauge its subscriber’s interest before making an adequate decision on whether or not to renew Scavengers Reign. Fans, on the other hand, are calling on others to watch the show and influence Netflix’s decision on the matter.
As always, we’re with the fans–Scavengers Reign is an excellent animated sci-fi drama series that follows the survivors of the damaged interstellar cargo ship Demeter 227, who are stranded on Vesta, an alien planet bustling with flora and fauna but filled with dangers.
Incredible Animation
Based on the premise, it sounds like the combination of Pitch Black, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and After Earth, but it’s actually a unique story in which survivors get separated into three groups, but their paths converge towards the crash-landed Demeter.
Not only that, but the animation of Scavengers Reign is rather unique as well, and it’s clear that plenty of work has been invested in the flora and fauna of the planet. Think Avatar, but with fewer blue alien people.
Critical Acclaim
Animation and story are the most important factors, and we’re really surprised as to why Max decided to call it quits on Scavengers Reign. The series did exceptionally well critically. It currently has a 100 percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 94 percent audience score, which only attests to its quality, and we could argue that Netflix could make a Season 2 based on those metrics alone.
Netflix Has Made Other Series Better
Ultimately, Scavengers Reign isn’t the only series Netflix picked up and made better (assuming that happens)–in 2018, Fox decided to pull the plug on Lucifer, and Netflix decided to pick up the series. It worked because the viewership increased during the show’s time on Netflix, and something similar is likely to happen to Scavengers Reign if Netflix decides to pursue further development.
