Netflix Reveals One Piece Anime Remake In Massive New Video
Perhaps one of the most anticipated upcoming anime series is Netflix and WIT Studio’s remake of One Piece. Titled The One Piece, the remake was announced in December 2023 and Netflix just shared a massive 20-minute video that shows some of the production process for the series along with interviews with the creative staff. Fans were also treated to some concept art for the upcoming series.
Check out the video for all things related to The One Piece:
The One Piece is an anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s seminal manga, which is still currently being adapted by Toei Animation. But, following the massive popularity of Netflix’s live-action adaptation and the continued rise of anime’s popularity in general, Netflix and WIT Studio teamed up to remake the anime from the beginning. With Toei still working on new episodes, newcomers might be confused by the purpose of a remake, but it should be a great entry point for new fans of the series and a fantastic way for current fans to experience the story all over again.
The One Piece is presumably going to be all-killer no-filler, and will update the animation style for a new generation.
While Toei Animation has been doing a great job with the latest episodes of One Piece, it’s fair to say that going back to the earlier episodes can be hard, as the animation is a little dated and the pace can be incredibly slow. The anime first premiered in 1999, and there are also a ton of filler episodes, so you have to watch well over 1,000 episodes of sometimes-dated animation to catch up. The One Piece is presumably going to be all-killer no-filler, and will update the animation style for a new generation.
Perhaps one of the coolest parts of the video is when you see that The One Piece team actually created 3D world maps of some of the key locations from the manga and anime so they could create interesting angles for the scenes.
As seen in the behind-the-scenes interview video, Netflix and WIT Studio have also assembled a pretty amazing team to bring The One Piece to life, hiring talent from some of the most popular and acclaimed anime in recent years. Masashi Koizuka, known for his work on the extremely popular Attack on Titan, is directing and his passion for the project is clear in the video. He mentions, “I want to continue for a long period and create this forever,” which is good because there’s plenty of material to adapt.
Along with Koizuka, other team members for The One Piece are some key creatives who have worked on anime like Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy x Family, The First Slam Dunk, Ranking of Kings, Haikyu!!, and more. These are all great shows in their own right, and the combination of genres is the perfect fit for a series like One Piece, which balances humor, heart, and slice-of-life moments with huge battles and adventures. In short, the finicky fanbase actually seems happy that the remake is in good hands.

That’s some next-level passion and dedication that will hopefully shine through in the final product. Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for this project yet, but if the streamer keeps releasing videos like these then the hype for the remake is going to go through the roof.
