Amid a slew of cancellations across several streaming services, Netflix has renewed The Lincoln Lawyer for season two. The popular legal drama is an adaptation of the book series of the same name by Michael Connelly. It was developed for television by David E. Kelley and Ted Humphrey. Based on the 2008 novel The Brass Verdict, the project debuted its first 10-episode season to mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers.

The Lincoln Lawyer season two will be based on The Fifth Witness novel and will also consist of 10 episodes. The renewal comes as no surprise following the show’s success on the streaming service. The first season premiered on May 13th holding firmly on the Netflix Global Top 10 with a total of 260.53 million hours viewed as of June 5th. The series also reached the Top 10 in 90 countries, Deadline reports.

Dailyn Rodriguez is set to join The Lincoln Lawyer season two as co-showrunner and executive producer, alongside Ted Humphrey. She has previously worked on the USA Network series Queen of the South and boasts writing credits on several popular series like Fantasy Island, Lie to Me, and The Glades. According to Variety, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will reprise his role as Mickey Haller for the show’s second outing, with Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, and Angus Sampson set to return as well.

Just like the books, The Lincoln Lawyer (season one and two) chronicles the redemption of a Los Angeles attorney Mickey Haller who, after falling victim to addiction, gets his life back on track with hard work and hustle. His success is also due to his devoted support system which includes his ex-wives Maggie and Lorna, as well as his driver and unofficial sponsor Izzy. Mickey also gets a little help from Cisco, the best investigator in town who also happens to be Lorna’s new fiancé.

Netflix’s first installment of The Lincoln Lawyer sees Mickey Haller run his law practice from the back seat of his car (a Lincoln). But somehow, he still manages to take on big and small cases across the expansive city of Los Angeles. When his former law partner is killed, Mickey is left to take over the firm, including a high-profile murder trial. Now, with the biggest case, he’s ever had to tackle, the backseat lawyer discovers there may be more at stake than he thought. Season two is expected to continue similarly.

Interestingly, Connelly’s first book in The Lincoln Lawyer series was adapted for the big screen in 2011. Directed by Brad Furman from a screenplay by John Romano, the film featured Matthew McConaughey as the titular lawyer, Mickey Haller. The movie also starred Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei, Josh Lucas, William H. Macy, and Bryan Cranston. Much like the series, the film was a hit with viewers. Hopefully, season two can follow suit.

David E. Kelley and Ted Humphrey will both serve as executive producers on The Lincoln Lawyer season two. They will share duties alongside Michael Connelly, Dailyn Rodriguez, Ross Fineman, Barry Jossen, and Tana Jamieson. A+E Studios produces the series for the streaming service. There is currently no release date for season two.
