Netflix Just Renewed Its Best Series For Another Season
Netflix's hit teen treasure hunt series Outer Banks will get a Season 4 in a shock announcement that comes even before Season 3 has aired.
Netflix fans just struck gold. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the streamer announced that its hit show Outer Banks will return for Season 4. Amazingly, the announcement comes just days before the premiere of Outer Banks Season 3.
The announcement shocked fans gathered at Poguelandia, a Huntington Beach, California fan event. The cast attended the gathering to break the news of Outer Banks Season 4 and share a clip from Season 3, poised to take over Netflix on February 23. In addition to cast appearances, Poguelandia featured live music from artists alt-J, Khalid, The Nude Party, and more.
Outer Banks is one of the biggest shows in Netflix’s catalog. The show’s second season landed it in Netflix’s Top 10 in 74 countries. It spent four weeks as the global number one English-language series on the platform, and Netflix looks to repeat that success with Season 4.
Starring Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, Rudy Pankow, Austin North, and Drew Starkey, Outer Banks is a teen heartthrob treasure hunt for the ages.
Somewhere between The Goonies and The O.C., Outer Banks tells the story of teenagers divided by class on the coast of North Carolina. John B., played by Stokes, recruits a group to help him track down a treasure linked to his missing father but discovers he’s not the only one hunting the prize. The trailer for Outer Banks’ third season promises an even broader scope for the show that will leave viewers hungry for Season 4.
Outer Banks creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke will return for Season 4. During the announcement at Poguelandia, the team expressed excitement for the return and promised that even more twists and turns were coming. Outer Banks is a wild ride, but its star Chase Stokes knows that, eventually, the ride must come to an end.
Stokes told The Hollywood Reporter that he loves the world of Outer Banks, but only as long as the show’s writers have a good story to tell. He knows as well as anyone that popular shows tend to outstay their welcome and become stale, and however long Outer Banks goes, he wants the show to end on a high note.
Outer Banks has been a breakout show for cast members like Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline, who both had early roles playing small parts on Netflix’s Stranger Things. Stokes will play alongside Joey King in McG’s upcoming film Uglies, and Cline was just seen in the all-star cast of Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story, another Netflix production.
Whether the end of Outer Banks comes with Season 4 or in seasons beyond is still a mystery. For now, fans can gear up for Season 3 knowing that, at most, they are only halfway to the end of this wild adventure. In a world saturated with television shows, Outer Banks is a treasure worth holding on to, and thanks to Netflix, it isn’t going away any time soon.
