Brand New Action Thriller On Netflix Stuns With Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
These days, Netflix has garnered a reputation for being hit-or-miss with many of their original productions, with some making major headlines and others flopping upon release. The latest original film from the streamer, however, an action thriller Rebel Ridge, has been turning the heads of critics and general crowds alike and has already earned major critical praise.
The movie was originally released on September 6, 2024, and has continued picking up steam with subscribers on the Netflix platform ever since.
Rebel Ridge On Netflix
Rebel Ridge is the brainchild of writer, director, producer, and editor Jeremy Saulnier, who previously helmed such cult classics as Blue Ruin, Green Room, and Hold The Dark.
Saulnier originally partnered with Netflix to bring this project to life back in 2019, though production was ultimately halted before its initial schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic that enraptured the entire Hollywood film industry throughout 2020 and beyond.

A Marine Veteran Wronged
The narrative of Rebel Ridge centers on a Marine Corps veteran named Terry Richmond, who is assaulted and harassed by a pair of corrupt police officers after cycling into the small town of Shelby Springs.
After searching Richmond’s possessions, the police officers discover that he has over $36,000 in cash on his person, which was intended to bail his cousin out of jail and purchase a used vehicle.
The officers ultimately choose to take Terry’s money and leave him stranded, prompting him to sue the department in a quixotic search for justice that he is unlikely to win.
Fighting The System
As Terry continues to fight the system, he finds himself getting bullied by the corrupt police force, who continue to lie, cheat, and steal from the veteran, as well as his known associates.
In a desperate bid to force Terry to fall in line, the cops arrange for his cousin Mike to be transferred to a dangerous prison where he will be surrounded by enemy gang members before offering to pay Terry off with a fraction of his confiscated cash.
As the plot of Rebel Ridge builds to an explosive climax, the film showcases an uphill battle of good vs evil, at the hands of a fascist, power-tripping caste of megalomaniacs.
Compared To Jack Reacher And Rambo
The film has been heavily compared to other tales of men facing violent acts of systemic corruption, such as the Jack Reacher and Rambo franchises.
Critics seem to absolutely love Rebel Ridge, as evidenced by the film’s near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes critic score of 96 percent.
Aaron Pierre provides a career-defining performance in the leading role, while the likes of Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, Emory Cohen, and The Office‘s David Denman round out the cast.
