Netflix Reveals Epic Sci-Fi Trailer To Go Against Star Wars
Though Netflix has had a series of problems with creating original Summer blockbusters in the past, the streamer has just released a trailer for a sci-fi epic that threatens to unseat other massive film franchises such as Star Wars and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.
The two-part film will be written and directed by Zack Snyder, who is also currently working with Netflix to craft a sequel to his 2021 film Army of the Dead. According to the trailer, Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child Of Fire and Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver will be released on the streamer on December 22, 2023, and April 19, 2024, respectively.
Zack Snyder is bringing Rebel Moon, a two-part sci-fi epic, to Netflix later this year.
The trailer released for the first installment in the Rebel Moon franchise seems to have it all. Massive armies going to war, science fiction creatures that look like they were pulled straight from the tales of ancient mythology, and massive spaceships roaming over endless deserts in the expanse of a foreign planet.
The film is set to boast an all-star cast consisting of Cleopatra Coleman, Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Corey Stoll, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, and legendary film performer Anthony Hopkins according to IMDb.
Before joining the cast of Rebel Moon, Cleopatra Coleman was best known for her work in films such as Infinity Pool and A Lot Of Nothing, whereas Sofia Boutella was best known for work in franchise films such as Kingsman: The Secret Service, and Star Trek Beyond. Charlie Hunnam is best known for leading the FX series Sons Of Anarchy as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, appearing in nearly 100 episodes between 2008 to 2014.
Ed Skrein, Djimon Hounsou, and Corey Stoll are best known for their work on major Marvel films, including Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, respectively.
Sofia Boutella, best known for Star Trek: Beyond, leads the cast of Rebel Moon.
With all this incredible talent stacked up alongside the cinematic vision of Zack Snyder, Rebel Moon seems destined for success. During a recent screening event, Snyder explained that Rebel Moon originated from his long-gestating concept for a Star Wars film before eventually evolving into the long-form two-part epic it has become today.
The sci-fi film seems like a perfect fit for Snyder, whose films have come under criticism in recent years for their highlighted focus on singular moments, creating massive scenes that function as still-life paintings at the apex of their respective scenes. For a massive film such as Rebel Moon, this trademark could be seen as more of a benefit than a detriment, with many cinematic masterpieces laid out in the trailer alone.
Rebel Moon started as Zack Snyder’s Star Wars film, before growing into a multi-part sci-fi epic.
Snyder’s signature style may not be the guiding light behind the DC cinematic universe as it once was, but the trailer for Rebel Moon seems to make it clear that this next chapter in the filmmaker’s catalog is likely for the best.
With mythological concepts and massive wars waged between space-bound kingdoms, the plot seems rife with Zack Snyder‘s signature style of spectacle filmmaking. We’ll have to wait until December to get our first taste of the sci-fi epic on our home screens.
