The Best Superhero Anime On Netflix Has A Major Problem
Netflix has a fairly decent anime selection, giving fans access to some of the most popular anime in the world like My Hero Academia. Unfortunately, the streamer only gives fans access to the first four seasons of the series, which is great, but it means you won’t be able to catch up. I can definitely recommend checking those seasons out, but Netflix might not be the best place to do it.
My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia takes place in a world where almost everyone has superpowers known as quirks. Unfortunately for protagonist Izuku Midoriya, who dreams of becoming a hero, he was one of the few born without a quick. But, a fateful meeting with the world’s number one hero, All Might, gives Midoriya the chance to attend the hero academy known as UA and follow his dreams.
Four Seasons Isn’t Enough
My Hero Academia may be a fairly typical shonen, but it does shonen really, really well. Most of the characters are extremely likable, the world is well-fleshed out, the stories are exciting, and the animation is some of the best in anime today.
If you love fight scenes, emotional story arcs, and big stakes, then you’ll definitely love this series.
But if you’re watching on Netflix, we get back to the big problem I mentioned earlier. The My Hero Academia anime is currently airing its seventh season, and with only four seasons available to stream, Netflix watchers are going to be way, way behind.
Don’t get me wrong, the first four seasons have some of the best episodes in the show, but you’re going to want to keep watching as soon as you finish up that fourth season finale.
Only One Movie
Netflix is also lacking when it comes to My Hero Academia movies, as it only has the 2018 film Two Heroes. There’s currently three MHA films out, including World Heroes Mission, which is arguably the best one so far. Not to mention the fact that the next movie, titled You’re Next, is coming out this year in the US and likely won’t be landing on Netflix.
The Manga
But the real nail in the coffin of watching My Hero Academia on Netflix is the fact that the manga just ended. If you’re someone like me who tries to avoid manga spoilers while watching anime, this is going to make avoiding spoilers a nightmare.
Social media is currently serving tons of MHA content thanks to the manga ending, which means you might just run across an errant spoiler while scrolling your TikTok and Reels after you start watching.
Stream It Now
GFR SCORE
Of course, the alternative is to just watch My Hero Academia on Crunchyroll instead of Netflix, but if you’re already paying for Netflix you probably don’t want to have to cough up for another streaming service if you’re not already.
Hopefully, Netflix will get the new seasons sooner rather than later, but it’ll likely be a slow process. So, if you really want to catch up fully, you might be best off starting on Crunchyroll.
In any case, I can wholeheartedly recommend the series if you like shonen anime. It’s one of the best shonen going today. You can stream the first four seasons of My Hero Academia on Netflix now.
