Netflix Magical Fantasy Anime Gets Even Better With The Latest Season
Anime fans have been treated to a plethora of spectacular programming on Netflix in recent years, as the streamer has continually shifted to host more and more international projects. Now, the fourth season of the hit shōnen anime series Black Clover has arrived on the streaming giant, offering some of the most under-appreciated animation in recent history. The series is based on a hit manga that has been published through Shonen Jump since 2015.
All Seasons Now Streaming On Netflix
Even before Black Clover came to Netflix, the series garnered a massive fan base due to its well-crafted writing, fully-realized characters, and vibrant art style. The series first began airing episodes back in 2017, and concluded its 170-episode run in March of 2021. With the release of the fourth season on the Netflix platform, fans are now finally able to witness the series’ thrilling conclusion, as originally authored by the famed Mangaka Yūki Tabata.
Perfect For Fans Of Naruto
While Black Clover is a wholly original anime that stands on its own merit, the show has drawn some apt comparisons to other popular projects such as the Naruto series. Like the eponymous ninja from Naruto, Black Clover‘s protagonist Asta has lofty dreams of becoming a fierce and respected warrior. As Asta journeys through the ranks and fights to become the warrior he has always dreamt of, he encounters numerous witches, wizards, and other magical forces that create constant barriers for him to traverse.
The Plot
The plot of Black Clover introduces Asta as a teenage orphan, left to fend for himself using his own devices. His peer, fellow orphan Yuno, possesses natural magical talent, allowing him to continually harness the energy taught to him through the book of grimoire. When Asta attempts to utilize the teachings of the grimoire himself, he is given a mysterious and uninterpretable sign, along with a massive great sword.
As the narrative carries on, viewers learn that Asta is the only character in the universe of the show who has been born without the ability to harness magic in any way. In this capacity, the plot of Black Clover operates as the inverse of the “chosen one” trope. Rather than relying on some prophetic greatness within his bloodline, Asta must scrap, fight, and work hard at every turn in order to best his foes, even if it means fighting twice as hard for half the results.
From The Studio That Brought Tokyo Ghoul And Other Hits
Studio Pierrot, who is responsible for bringing the Black Clover anime to life, has a great deal of experience adapting other beloved manga series’, such as Tokyo Ghoul, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, and Naruto Shippuden. Pierrot’s beloved production style, in tandem with Yūki Tabata’s spectacular writing and art direction, make Black Clover one of the most exciting new anime projects to hit Netflix.
Audiences Agree, Black Clover Is Binge-worthy Material
If you’re an anime fan and you haven’t yet had the chance to binge through the first few seasons of Black Clover, now is the perfect time to dive in head-first on Netflix. While the critically underrated series lacks the critical following to have a critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, general audiences have reached a consensus of 90 percent certified fresh on the review aggregate site.
