Netflix Fans Are Furious After Streamer Botches Love Is Blind Event
The live season four reunion for Netflix's Love Is Blind was interrupted because of technical difficulties.
Fans of the popular Netflix dating reality show Love Is Blind were furious after the live season four reunion was botched. The streamer experienced technical difficulties on April 16, with most viewers attempting to tune in, seeing an error message for over an hour. “Pardon the interruption. We’re having trouble playing Netflix. Please check your internet and try again.”
Eventually, Chloe Veitch of Too Hot to Handle fame told those in attendance that Netflix was going to tape the Love Is Blind reunion instead and that some fans were able to gain access to the video stream. But since so many fans were still stuck with the error message, a spokesperson said the special would be available to watch later.
According to Deadline, the cause of the delay remains unclear. But Netflix did issue an apology for the Love Is Blind blunder on social media. “To everyone who stayed up late, woke up early, gave up their Sunday afternoon… we are incredibly sorry that the Love Is Blind Live Reunion did not turn out as we had planned,” the streamer said.
Created for Netflix by Chris Coelen, Love Is Blind premiered in February 2020 as part of a three-week event. The reality dating series chronicles a social experiment in which single men and women search for love and get engaged without meeting in person. For 10 days, they go on dates via pods that allow conversation but no visuals.
The couples are initially paired in a speed-dating format, but as the series progresses, they can go on longer dates. Anyone can extend a marriage proposal whenever they feel ready. Couples can only meet in person after a marriage proposal is accepted.
The Love Is Blind participants are then taken to a resort where they can be physically intimate.
Following the mini vacation, the engaged couples move into the same apartment complex in their home city. During this time, they meet each other’s families and friends while learning more about their future spouses’ lives, habits, and quirks. They also plan weddings that are at the end of four weeks on Netflix’s Love Is Blind.
After shopping for wedding dresses, suits, and catering, the various couples make the final decision about their chosen partner at the altar. Following the first season, Netflix said over 30 million households had watched Love Is Blind within four weeks of its premiere. The debut season remained in the U.S. Top 10 for 47 consecutive days.
Additionally, Netflix’s Love Is Blind was the only unscripted show to rank in Nielsen’s list of 2022’s Top Ten Original Streaming Programs, with 13.1 billion minutes viewed. In 2023, the fourth season of the reality dating show racked up the biggest premiere viewership in its history. So it’s not surprising that fans were upset when the live reunion was botched.
The much-hyped Netflix Love Is Blind reunion was the streamer’s second live event. The service previously showcased the comedy special Chris Rock: Selective Outrage on March 4 with no technical problems. As the company continues to venture into live events, Netflix plans to stream the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony in 2024.
